UPDATE: “He died peacefully; He was indeed my star” – Mrs Vilna M. Fahie
Inspector Fahie passed away yesterday March 3, 2014. At the time of the interview, Virgin Islands News Online was visiting the family home of PI Fahie yesterday afternoon where we met his wife Mrs. Vilna M. Fahie. She was at the time standing at the entrance of their home in the company of PI Joel Gumbs and his wife.
At first she was somewhat reserved but however got comfortable enough to share her thoughts with this news site. Water welled up in her eyes as she began to discuss releasing his photographs but those tears were quickly replaced with smile of loving memories of her relationship with her husband.
“He died peacefully, he was indeed my star, he was my star, Fahie knew I loved him a lot. Every time, as recent as yesterday (Sunday) when he came home my heart fluttered like it was the first time I was seeing him and falling in love with him, I don’t know but that was how much I was in love with my husband and he knew it. I told him every time I had the opportunity to tell him I love him,” said the wife while speaking exclusively with Virgin Islands News Online.
She said that he had never complained of being ill recently but that he went to bed and never woke up. “He went to bed normal, normal and just slept away, no suffering, nothing he just went,” she related. She said that he was pronounced dead on arrival at the Peebles Hospital.
According to the woman, her husband had served the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) well and for all his working life giving the force 32 years of service. “Fahie join the force when he was 18 years old and he went through the ranks from constable to sergeant, if you check it is thirty two years that means he served his time, he did serve his time.”
Mrs. Fahie said that in reflection she now finds it strange that she went to the Social Security Board’s album last Tuesday and began duplicating photographs of her now late husband and then posted them on her Facebook page.
“They asked me why I was doing that but I didn’t even know why I was doing it, I just felt that I needed to do it and I did,” she recalled. She consented to having some of those photographs shared with viewers of this news site.
PI Joel recalled Mr Fahie as a man who apart from being a dedicated and hard working police, was a very good cook. “As a constable I worked with him at the East End Police Station and he had like to cook, he was very good at it too,” recalled PI Gumbs.
This was also confirmed by Mrs. Fahie, “The children use always say he was a better cook than me, they always said that so that what you (Gumbs) are saying is very true of Fahie, he liked to cook.”
The woman said that her wish was for persons to reflect on what a wonderful person her husband was especially his tremendous role played serving Virgin Islands as a police of the RVIPF. “I don’t want to hear about no court matter, he represented more than that, he was a dedicated person to the BVI, he was an exceptional father and husband and I am not saying that for the want of saying, it’s the fact. Let’s remember him for who he truly was… I am already missing my husband, Fahie is gone, he is gone, I loved my husband,” she said as she nodded her head in memory and honour of her late husband PI Leonard Fahie.

UPDATE: “PI Leonard Fahie a RVIPF Star” – Hon Julian Fraser, RA
SEA COW’S BAY, Tortola, VI – As word quickly swept through the Virgin Islands on the passing of Police inspector Leonard Fahie, one legislator who is a strong advocate for the Royal Virgin Island’s Police Force (RVIPF), Third District Representative Honourable Julian Fraser, RA was prompt to express his condolences on the passing.
“This morning I rose in sorrow upon learning of the passing of one of our stars in the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), Inspector Leonard Fahie. His passing was a total shock to me as I was not aware of any ailments, which I later confirm, was not the case,” Hon Fraser, RA told this news site.
He said that he was able to reach his mother, his younger brother and also his youngest son who is only 13 to offer his condolence and reminded them of their long and cordial relationship which goes back decades beginning with his late father Louie. “My commitment to the family in times of sorrow and need was also extended to them as I am all too familiar with the burdens of such tragedies.”
According to Hon Fraser even though there is never a right time for something like this, Inspector Fahie's passing could not have come at a worse time for the RVIPF, since there is a renewed emphasis for the promotion of Virgin Islanders to serve on the force. “I also share their loss.”
Hon Fraser further added, “I will also like the members of the force to know that I continue to be a friend, and support their many endeavors. And further pledge my full commitment to helping the drive to recruit the brightest and best this Territory has to offer for the future of policing these Virgin Islands.”
The death of Mr Fahie has come as a total shock to the family, evident as the Virgin Islands News Online spoke with one of his sons Mr Tony Fahie. “I didn’t even get to speak with him the last time I saw him last night,” the son said. This news site understands that Mr Fahie’s wife was in an extremely emotional state as were several other close relatives.
