UPDATE: Green light on at 5:00pm for Chic Trends official opening
Yesterday February 27, 2014, this news site decided to check in with Ms Drew just to see if plans remained the same for her planned historic moment and was greeted with the words, “If I tell you I am not nervous I would be telling a lie but one thing for sure I can tell you is that I am ready, BVI I am ready.”
At the time she said she was busy in the streets of Tortola along with her sister distributing flyers, an activity that was building her confidence, assuring her potential customers and sealing her date with destiny.
The mobile boutique will be the first of its kind to be explored in the VI and while there are those who want to claim having such idea before Ms Drew and Mr Ferrol’s being able to bring the dream to reality speaks volumes.
The opening will take place in the parking lot at Sunny Caribee and according to Ms Drew she would love to have, among her customers and supporters the City Manager Mrs Janice Brathwaite-Edwards, one who she credits for the role she played in working with the Trade department to make history happen.
“I would love to see as many leaders, those who have been calling on youths to get up off their butts and do things, I want them to see that we heard their calls, we realize that they mean well for us so just passing by tomorrow afternoon (today) will mean much,” said Ms Drew.

Local Youth to launch VI’s 1st mobile boutique Feb. 28
EAST END, Tortola, VI – At a time when the recent global economic down turn had left quite a number of businesses in the fashion industry struggling to get back on their feet a young daughter of the soil of the Virgin Islands Ms Tekeisha K. Drew has ventured out into a new avenue to show that with initiative, the worldwide economic depression can be beat.
“People are going to be wowed by the way I am going to be conducting business in this mobile boutique,” assured Ms Drew.
Come February 28, at the Sunny Caribe parking lot, Ms Drew will be silencing the negative voices while making those who had a positive input proud and at the same time fulfilling yet another of her entrepreneurial quests. She has beaten the odds to bring to the streets of the VI its first ever fashion boutique on wheel; Chic Trends.
“What I want the public to know is that this idea is very creative and the fashion is very affordable,” Ms Drew told this news site in an exclusive interview yesterday February 23, 2014 while giving us a firsthand tour and feel of the mobile boutique.
She first toyed with the idea of an online store but was faced with the challenge of giving the items to the client. Then the memories of something she had seen on television where persons were picked up by a businessman and taken to his store. This she thought if turned to other way around would have been unique.
The tour had not only our reporter in awe but everyone else whose curiosity had caused them to stop by to explore the interior of the big pink beauty of a bus converted into a fashion boutique.
Looking at the mobile unit from the outside one gets the feeling of class and creativity and on entering the mobile unit, the design and layout stun. Every possible scenario was carefully thought out to cater for a try-on/dressing room, cashier counter, shoes try-on sofa and smartly designed display racks for clothing, accessories, hand bags and purses and even sun glasses.
“I want to give my customers a different experience verses an experience of ‘oh I just walking into a store’… but when you come in you get to see new things.”
“The internal design was carefully thought out as we took into consideration the movement [caused by] bumpy roads and hilly terrains,” said the obviously excited Ms Drew.
Ms Drew has every reason to be excited and proud of her accomplishment with the new business venture and she is very thankful that she rose above expectations and most of all created history with her new type of business.
She noted, “It took a lot of research, a lot of careful thought because it has never been in the Virgin Islands, it’s the first of its kind so I had to go through the channels, had to break down a lot of walls. But it’s here. The Trade Department allowed me to do it…they allowed me to park in specific areas and I am thankful for it.”
In addition to a special fashion website that will be up and running be they official opening date, persons are encouraged to show their support in addition to shopping by liking on Facebook, Instagram and twitter at chictrendsbvi.
This is a business of a young woman that is worth supporting and giving every bit of encouragement as she is very keen on ensuring that not only personal gains are derived by she is very passionate about committing percentage profit to charitable causes. “Anyone who knows me will tell you that I am a person that loves to give, I love to share and I do it not for doing sake but for the cause. It’s just the way I am I just cannot stop and doing so with every humility,” she said.
Students will also benefit from the venture as they will enjoy special discounts yearlong, in addition to girls night out shopping complemented by a sip and chat environment, birthdays, guys-girls treat among several others experiences.
What customers can be sure of is a new line of style; whether contemporary, trendy and everyday. Drew assured that stocks will be refreshed as often as fortnightly.
Ms Drew was high in praise to her closest partner in the business Mr Danny F. Ferrol who has been into and a full part of the business idea from the get-go. "There are several others who played very vital role towards this end and I want to take the opportunity to say a heartfelt thank you," said Ms Drew.
“I am confident that this is going to work, I believe that when you put doubts in your mind you can discourage yourself but I believe that a business is a product of you, who you are, who you represent and if your personality is in tip top shape and you are doing it for a good reason it will work.”
