Big crowd & plenty skills expected at All Star games on Sat. Oct. 5

- The Hon. Julian Fraser/ Save the Seed Basketball League to host a massive family fun night that includes, cash prizes, giveaways and much more at Save the Seed Energy Centre

This Saturday October 5, 2013 will be a big night for the Hon. Julian Fraser/Save the Seed National Intermediate Basketball League as the long anticipated All Star games will take place.

The event will get underway from 5:00 P.M. at the Save the Seed Energy Centre in Duffs Bottom on the main island of Tortola. While there will be no regular games on Friday, and Sunday, one cannot miss Saturday night’s family fun event.

The All Star games will be hosted under the patronage of Third District Representative Honourable Julian Fraser, RA and Bishop John I. Cline- founder of the Save the Seed Energy Centre in Duff Bottom and are seen as a break as the basketball league advance to the play offs, leading up to the Championship games which start on October 12, 2013 and conclude on November 3, 2013.

The fun night this Saturday will see some over-30 plus year ‘old time’ players from around the Virgin Islands in an exhibition game, a slam dunk contest along with all star players from the 9-12  and the Men’s divisions competing for many prizes.

“The season so far has gone very well. As you know Talk Done is the regular season champion having one seven games and losing just one. But as we go into the All Star games I think we will get more crowd, more cheering and better performances,” commented one of the coordinators of the Hon. Julian Fraser/Save the Seed National Intermediate League, Mr Milton C. McLean in an exclusive interview with Virgin Islands News Online.

Commenting on the All Star lineup, Mr McLean said the players are ready to perform. He did mention also that the toughest part was coming up with the final list of players. “Of course players all think they should have made the team. No one wants to be left out.”

The fans, Mr McLean stated, will surely be in for a treat.

“The All Star games are to showcase skills and we know basketball players like to showcase what they can do so I think the crowd will be very pleased with what we will put on. We will put on some games, a slam dunk competition, three point shoot-out and the 9-12 kids will also have their fun.”

Of much interest and expected to draw a crowd also is the game featuring the ‘old time’ players. Not expected to bring down the house with their game despite the anticipated loud huffing and puffing, the old boys will surely be trying to roll back the years with some of their old ball tricks still left in the bag.

Basketball League Commissioner Mr Rajah A. Smith was also of the view that Saturday's event would bring much excitement for both fans and players.

He noted that the "old school" match-up would be between a team organised by Roy 'Yellow man" Garraway and would include some of the older players from Road Town and other areas who will be challenging the "old timers" from Sea Cows Bay including David Abednego, 'Shattas', Bobby, Kevin Willock and others.

“We are looking at it as a family evening so we hope the parents will bring out the entire family to enjoy the games,” Mr Milton McLean said.

Many of the sponsors of the Hon Julian Fraser/Save the Seed basketball league will also be on hand including telecommunications giant Digicel, who will be having many giveaways.

The games are good and well contested, but when the games finish and you walking out the door. the people does leave the place to damn nasty, The center should not cleanup after them. Because if it was east end or belle vue they had to clean before they leave.
