ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The four New Year’s Day babies born at the Obstetrics Ward of the Peebles Hospital on January 1, 2014 has created a new record, according to the British Virgin Islands Health Services Authority (BVIHSA).

It was reported that the former record was held in 2009 where two babies were born on New Year’s Day.

It was also noted that the twins first reported by this news site was fraternal.

The Director of Medical Services, Dr. June Samuel stated, “This is a testament of service excellence at Peebles Hospital. One mom was admitted at 27 weeks, and the medical staff truly went above and beyond to ensure her safety and the baby’s safety. All three mothers had all four babies’ right here in the Virgin Islands, at Peebles Hospital on the same day, and this is truly a blessing. I must commend our medical staff because of their work hard and commitment to service excellence.”

Dr. Samuel also added, “Despite our previous and current challenges we continue to work steadfastly towards improving quality through the delivery of excellent, compassionate and client-centred healthcare. We believe in quality care and patient safety, every patient every time 24/7 365.”

According to Nurse Manager for the Obstetrics Ward, Ms. Heather Barnett, “New Year’s Day is always an exciting time on the Ward. We did not expect all three moms to deliver yesterday (January 1, 2014), but we were prepared and ready for all of them. All the moms and babies are doing well. All of the babies have already opened their eyes and two of the four babies have already given us a smile. It is truly a miraculous time for us on the ward, and we are very happy for all the families.”

There was a pair of twins born in the US, one just before midnight on Old Years, and the other just after midnight on New Years morning. My question is, do they celebrate two separate birthdays (on the 31st of December and 1st of January?)
