ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) has been forced to suspend in-person classes tomorrow, Tuesday, February 25, 2025, due to the continuation of water issues.

Classes ended early today, Tuesday, February 24, 2025, as a result of “major water issues”.

In a letter to parents, today, Principal Vanessa K. Garraway informed them that the ongoing water issues had not been resolved.

Virtual learning, no free day- Principal Garraway

While students will not be required to come into the school for face-to-face classes, they have been advised that it is not a free day.

“We are continuing with regular instruction, just in an online format. LIVE sessions will be conducted, and students are expected to log in, participate, and engage fully in their lessons,” Principal Garraway wrote in the letter.

Parents have also been asked for their support in ensuring their children log in, participate and engage fully in their lessons.

“We understand that this is an inconvenience, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation as we navigate this situation,” the letter added.

She assured parents that updates would be provided as more information about the repair process is received.

'Major water situation' in RT forces early dismissal of ESHS

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Students of Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) just returning from mid-term break have found themselves with an extra half-day today, Monday, February 24, 2025.

Principal Vanessa K. Garraway informed parents via a letter this morning that due to a "major water situation" in the entire Road Town area, "we will be dismissing school today at 12:45 pm."

Garraway said school buses were notified of this schedule change and would be available to transport students who usually take the bus.

"For parents/guardians picking up their children, we kindly ask that you collect your child/children by 1:20 pm. Students will be allowed to collect their lunch from school vendors," the letter to parents stated.

It is unclear what exactly is the water situation and the Water & Sewerage Department (W&SD) has not issued any notice of a water disruption.

The cruise ship needed the water so they had to shut down distribution in town in order to accommodate.

If our government Cabinet leaders have allowed the Lord to directed them that the school buildings needed cisterns, things such as this and others would not become hindrances to our educational goals for our children and grand children future. Half a day with tutoring minus good governance.

Rushing the brush, and other mismanaging our finances is sure proof of political mediocre leadership.

Haven't had water for 2 consecutive days in the past 3 months in Mac Namara. For the past 4 days not a drop. Ain't no way this would have happen to us under a Britain administration . Water is most essential. Our leaders being taking us for granted since since the 90s.

The education of our children have to be compromised because of poor decisions by present and past administrations. The priorities of this country have not yet been identified and as a result practically everything is running amok. The MOE & Culture should address this issue without hesitation and do what is necessary to ensure there is an adequate supply of water at the school. Furthermore the entire government should be embarrassed with this situation. Maybe instead of spending so much money on travel some should be spent on building cisterns at the school or go towards constructing a reservoir.

Britain saw this country sinking and failing and refused to stop it, no they tried to stoo it but our people who are doing well are complicit in its failure put up strong resistance. Why Can't we see the BVI is been slowly sinking for the past 30 yrs and our leaders, don't care, they being living their best lives while giving us excuses, water is one if the gross failures. This is how it use to be in the 70's for those who don't know, pull Cistern water every day and when your cistern dry go beg your neighbor and beg..can't get worst than this, Britain should have taken over. Pensioners in trouble, NHI in trouble, social security will be soon, Yet no leader has the courage to fix our two most money Animal that eating up our monies. Office Renta, NHI, plus giving themselves big increases, These would have been addressed and fixed under a Britain administration, plus improvement would have been happening.., by the time our leaders our people finish with us, nothing left for the youths, maybe you all ain hear or don't care almost 200 non belonger or citizen bought land last yr. When ask how this can be, the people say its our own greedy people selling out their true legacy, children selling out their family land that hand down to them, those after them will continue to pay rent until they die like Govt.. People we are in a sinking ship..

What became of the well on the school campus that was used to supply water to the Road Town area in the past. Could this be utilized to supply the school maybe a purification system could also make it drinkable. Is this too much to invest in our children to give them the best possible opportunity at a good education for our future. When will the mental slavery in this country end it is becoming unbearably disgusting. Do you see why the children are angry and couldn't care less...the system has failed them big time...they see and know what's going on.

A Britain administration is what has us in this mess. If you want to fart you have to get permission from the governor. Tortola people wake up and put an end to the slavery.

Water is Life is more than a cliche. It is a precious commodity/resource which is important, vital and critical for our health, community and economy.. However, the BVI is a water-challenged community . Lack of a high quality, safe, and reliable, steady potable water supply has been a vexing problem for the BVI community for decades. It is an issue which is a staple in every political campaign in recent times. As the population continue to grow, the problem will become more acute if not addressed. What is addressing the problem mean?

It means developing and implementing a water utility ( water, wastewater, drainage) master plan. The BVI has a backlog of water infrastructure but lacks the financial resources to effectively and comprehensively invest in water infrastructure. The BVI needs to bite the bullet and prudently borrow to invest on water infrastructure and other capital projects needs, ie, roads, etc, following a national development and master plan(s). Enough talk, enough procrastination, enough bull shitting,,enough pussy footing around,,etc Leh us geh ah dun mehson. Get it done or suffer the wrath of the electorate at the polls.
