NEW YORK, USA- Former United States President Donald J. Trump has been convicted of falsifying business records in the first criminal trial of a former president.

The 12 jurors have been deliberating for two days.

According to the BBC, Trump pursed his lips as each one of the jurors confirmed that he's been found guilty. The former president turned his head to look at each one of them as they confirmed.

Todd Blanche, his lawyer, appeared to be taking notes.

Justice Juan Merchan says he will meet with the jurors personally afterwards to thank them for their work, and to ask them what they did right and what could've been done better.

"At this time, I think you very much," he said.

Trump jury reaches verdict in criminal hush-money trial

Jurors in former United States President Donald J. Trump's historic criminal trial, the first criminal trial of a former president of the United States, have a verdict.

The verdict was arrived at 29 hours after the New York jury of 12 began deliberating on 34 felony counts against Trump, after they’d heard five weeks of testimony from 22 witnesses and eight hours of closing arguments. The court also heard from Stormy Daniels, whose alleged sexual encounter with Trump is at the centre of this case

The verdict from the 12-person jury is expected to be delivered soon in the Manhattan courtroom where prosecutors spent weeks presenting allegations that Trump participated in a hush money scheme aimed at suppressing stories he feared could be harmful to his 2016 presidential campaign.

An acquittal would represent a massive win for the former president who will return to the campaign trail as an emboldened candidate aiming to retake the White House in November’s presidential election, while a guilty verdict would represent a stunning legal reckoning for Trump after years of criminal investigations.

Trump is charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records at his company in connection with an alleged scheme to hide potentially embarrassing stories about him during his 2016 Republican presidential election campaign.

    Like him or not, I personally don’t but justice has to remind fair and balance. Does anyone remember Paula Jones & Bill Clinton? The jury instructions were only 4 jurors needed to agree for a conviction. Any who think this is right? I pray you don’t find yourself in a court with a judge that makes the rules up as he pleases.       Michael Cohen wrote about taking that money in his book”Revenge” almost 6 years ago. He said he charged Trump $50,000, paid the vendor $20,000 and kept the $30,000. He spent 3 years in jail for the same crime that Trump was just found guilty of, plus he had Federal Charges added to that. And what grounds will his verdict be set aside? The defense called 2 witnesses: a paralegal and a lawyer hired by Trump to keep Cohen in line, but was more valuable to the prosecution.

His full-page ad calling for the death penalty for five teenage boys accused and convicted (and later found innocent) of a brutal attack on a woman in Central Park was just one of the hideous things he’s done in his miserable life.       @SeaCB. Yes, I lived there when that happened. Donald put a BOUNTY on anyone responsible for raping a White woman who was jogging in the park. They grabbed the first Black boys they saw, who were years later found to be innocent. They were known as the Central Park Five. If the woman was Black, he would not have given a damn and no bounty would have been offered. As youngsters, we were always in the park hanging out, but never committed crimes. We all were frightened and felt this injustice because it hurt many families. When this piece of dog dung gets convicted, there will be dancing in the streets. Good riddance to bad rubbish!

    This is not just about Donald Trump it is the ability of any justice system to deliver a verdict by a jury based on evidence to aquit or convict any person regardless of their Social, Nationaliy, Political association or Family ties of a crime that person is acussed of commiting. The BVI should learn from this. We need a strong Criminal System suported by thoughtout Legislations and a pool of brave persons who will be called up for jury duty to send a strong message to wouldbe criminals that if you violate the Laws of the Virgin Islands, regardless of who you are , who are your friends or Family you will face the law.
