UPDATE: CBC games' ticket prices dropped! - Crabbe-Herbert
Speaking with this news site this afternoon July 2, 2014 Ms Crabbe-Herbert confirmed that with immediate effect the tickets are now $20 for day tickets. She said that prior to today’s decision the day tickets cost $30.
She explained that with a ‘day ticket’ persons can enter all the games being played on any given day of the league that is currently in progress.
She also said that considering day one has gone there are no more season tickets on sale.
Several persons had expressed concern about the cost of the tickets as they felt it was the main factor for the many empty seats during the first day of games played yesterday and last night at the Multi Purpose Complex, Road Town, Tortola.

Empty seats @ B/Ball game sign of economic hardship – Patrons
-Calls for lower fees for groups to attend remaining CBC basketball games
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The opening night of the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) basketball championships being held here in the Virgin Islands was no doubt a testimony of the skills and talent of the Virgin Islands (VI) players but while they were on showcase scores of youths wanting to witness the games just couldn’t, as evidenced in the many empty seats last night July 1, 2014.
Throughout the night the question was constantly been asked by patrons, “Where is the crowd, where is our youths?” These questions did not go unnoticed by this news site and our roving eyes were forced to keep a regular tab on the flow of persons but there were those who just couldn’t hide the situation under a bushel.
“This is a serious thing, $20 to come in for individual games and they have a season ticket for $35 I think and with that our people couldn’t afford it to get in, this says a lot. The economic hardship our people are facing in this Territory is worse than these leaders are claiming it to be,” said Mr Melroy Lettsome.
Mr Lettsome was one of few that expressed those sentiments. He said he had witnessed a businessman doing something that touched him just before entering last night’s games. “A youth man approached my friend, a businessman, with a certain item I bet he took from his parents’ home, God forbid if he stole it otherwise, and was selling it for $40 dollars just to get a season ticket and the five dollars was for him to get something to eat,” he alleged.
The man said that his friend was moved by the desperation of the lad, admonished him to return the item and in turn bought five season tickets for the young man and a few friends with him who were desperate to get in.
Melborne, as he choose only to be referred by, was another person with concerns about the attendance at last night’s games. “Look around, all the Ministers, Leaders, businessmen, lots of people with healthy jobs those are the one you seeing here,” he observed.
He further went on to note, “The Culture Minister and even the Finance Minister could have committed some dollars to sponsor groups of youths seasons ticket so these seats could have been filled.”
“Was this in Guyana or even St Thomas Government or some businesses would have sponsored large numbers of tickets for school age children, some groups, street kids and so on because they are not blind to the fact that times hard, but rather than having the youths out there in some corner loitering, smoking or just locked in their home, something could have been done, this tonight here was not good at all,” said the man very emotionally.
One patron said that more than enjoying the game where the VI team unleashed a serious whipping on Guyana he admired the way persons were enjoying and supporting each game. “I just wished that right people had the chance to enjoy it but more is still to come and it’s not too late for a better image, GO TEAM BVI,” he said.

THANKS FOR TELLING US THE SCORE
D..n, take a hint and cut out the greed.....lower the prices!!!!
How the hell ayo expect the place to get filled when:
1. Prices are too high.
2. Orlando and his government raise the taxes going and coming to the country.
3. Orlando and his government put all the money in the reserve.
4. Only Orlando and his government plus supporters went to the opening game.
5. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.
I hope that our people realize that this is NOT a country to be fix by a NDP government because we will continue to suffer.
Their only focus is to provide for the reach and bleed the poor hence look at the results of the highly anticipated basketball turnout.
Last night from around 8pm the gym was ram, the whole bottom section FULL !!
As the tournament goes on it will get more pack, same thing happen in 2009!
Also, to get that support during the day, seeing that school is closed, it might be nice for the committee to somehow target the older youths who are at home doing nothing much during the days. Of course, this has to be done at a reasonable price for children to pay. This will also make the teams playing during the day feel that at least someone cares to come see their games while they are playing, and not necessarily just the BVI team playing. There are person's/youths that love the sport of basketball enough that they would support this entire league and their individual countries enough if the price was reasonable. If I was the committee, I would consider lowering it!
Even at $20 if I want to see one game with my family I am not paying for that in these hard times. Let the stands remain empty, at least the committee will brag that they held this competition in the BVI even if it was a failure.
