UPDATE: Bail still pending for alleged prison escapee
Penn appeared in the Magistrate’s Court on June 19, 2013 to determine the status of his matters but no member of the Crown had possession of his file at the time.
Penn, 25, who allegedly escaped from Her Majesty’s Prison on April 6, 2013 is also before the court on charges of unlawful and malicious wounding.
Senior Crown Counsel Sarah Benjamin said she only had one file and could only account for the file she had been assigned. She requested a reporting date on the matter from the Court.
Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards made note of the fact that the defendant remained incarcerated despite the fact that he had been offered bail. It was mentioned that someone had approached the court to undertake bail for the defendant but the process had not been completed.
Magistrate Richards said the Crown would need to report on its representation and the status of the defendant’s file at the next hearing.
The defendant was remanded to prison until July 5, 2013.

Allleged Prison escapee makes bail!
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Andrew Angus Penn, 25, of Josiah’s Bay was granted bail when he appeared before the Magistrate’s Court on charges of unlawful and malicious wounding.
After being arrested in February, 2013 and subsequently being incarcerated, Penn made headlines recently for having taken matters of his leave into his own hand when he allegedly escaped from Her Majesty’s Prison at Balsum Ghut on April 6, 2013.
Penn was reportedly apprehended approximately one hour after his escape after being discovered walking along the main road near the prison farm.
The defendant was reportedly given medication during his incarceration.
Penn was told, as part of his bail conditions, that he cannot associate with persons of ill repute and was required to report to Dr Samuels of Peebles hospital or any other medical practitioner as often as they required.
The defendant was also instructed to stay away from drugs and alcohol and was informed that he could be subjected to testing at any time if he came under suspicion of using illicit drugs.
Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards granted the accused bail in the sum of $30,000 with one signed surety.
