THE BLUFFS, Tortola, VI- The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has reported that two officers sustained injuries, one serious and the other non-life-threatening, when the vehicle they were in slammed into a light pole at The Bluffs last night.

According to the RVIPF, in a press release today, July 6, 2025, both officers are currently receiving medical care at Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital (DDOSH).

It said the police vehicle involved sustained front-end damage.

Sudden death report

Acting Commissioner Jacqueline E. Vanterpool stated the officers were responding to a report of a sudden death in the district when the accident occurred.

"The injured officers are receiving the full support of the RVIPF during their recovery. Out of a need to balance transparency while maintaining investigative integrity, I am unable to give further details until the investigation into the circumstances leading to the accident is completed," Acting Commissioner Vanterpool added.

Police said more information would be provided as necessary.

Gov't vehicle slams into light pole @ The Bluffs

A vehicle with government licence plate, GV 0668, somehow ended up slamming head-on into a light pole at The Bluffs last night.

Our roving reporter noticed the vehicle around 7:00 AM on Sunday, July 6, 2025.

The entire light pole did not collapse; however, the lamp and solar panel came crashing down in what appears to be a lone-vehicle accident.

If it's any consolation, the lamp was still working.

From all indications, police were on the scene.

It is unclear whether anyone was hurt, and the number of occupants of the vehicle at the time of the accident is unknown.

At a recent Question and Answer segment of the House of Assembly, Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) revealed that a number of government vehicles are uninsured.

We will continue to follow this story and provide more details when received.

Sunday morning...unless you are an essential worker or some other public officer using the government's vehicle to get to and from official events or duty travels, park the vehicle by the complex or wherever else is designated.

A tip for the Minister of Communication & Works. I would like to see some reflective tape on all those black lamp poles. Not that the tape would prevent accidents, but it would indicate their location on the side of the road from a distance at night. The tape enhances visibility, especially at night.

It's very inexpensive and very efficient, it's a shame the public have to think of these things instead of paid officials.
