UPDATE: ‘13 prepared & qualified persons ready for June 8’ - Hon Fraser
He was speaking at the conclusion of the party’s congress at Treasure Isle Hotel last evening May 6, 2015.
“The events that took place here tonight, I see them as historic. I have never seen the Virgin Islands Party done something as important as this except for the elections for members of the executive. But this time around we did the elections for the candidates for the general elections,” he said.
“The level of enthusiasm was a first…we had 13 people running for four seats, four positions, and the atmosphere was a great one. The choices were great and I think that everyone walked away happy knowing that the process was a democratic process at work and it was concluded to the satisfaction of everyone,” he said.
We were always prepared
Asked about the June 8, 2015 elections date which is to be proposed to Governor John S. Duncan OBE, Hon Fraser said that the VIP will be ready for elections as had been indicated before. “That is what I have always said. We’re ready for them whenever they call it. It is not a matter of us not being prepared…we have done what we were supposed to do…we’ve got a slate of 13 candidates. All 13 are well equipped…qualified and will do the job,” he said.
The 13 persons the VIP Congress confirmed are:
Hon Andrew A. Fahie (incumbent) - D1
Rajah A. Smith- D2
Hon Julian Fraser (incumbent) - D3
JoAnn R. Romney- D4
Zoe J. Walcott-McMillan- D5
Elvis J. Harrigan - D6
Oleanvine Pickering-Maynard - D7
McLloyd O. Walters - D8
Elton L. Sprauve - D9
Territorial/At-large
Dr Karl Dawson
Irene F. Penn-O'Neal
Charmaine R. Rosan-Bunbury
Sharie B. De Castro
We have a Government to take
Speaking to this news site following the confirmation of all of the delegates for the VIP, President of the VIP Carvin Malone said the party had just concluded a process based on Article 20 of its Constitution where through a process a full slate of candidates had been nominated and elected to represent the VIP in the next general elections.
“It is a process that we are proud of and we’re thankful for all those who have participated not only from the District levels but at the At Large level. We have returned four persons to actually help us on the At Large team in the persons of Dr Karl Dawson, Sharie B. De Castro, Irene F. Penn O’Neal and Charmaine R. Rosan-Bunbury,” he said.
He thanked all of the other contestants who put themselves up. “We have a process and we have a Government and a country to take. We have a country to protect and we have a Government to form come June 8, 2015. [On that date] the Virgin Islands Party will return a winning ticket,” he said.
Malone said that through its process last evening, the end result is a team that people can be proud of and lend their support to. “It shows the strength of the women here…we have 13 candidates and six of whom are women. We have some young and impressive candidates. We have a wide range and we are saying that we would now take the process onward to June 8, 2015,” said Malone.
With regard to the announced date proposed for the holding of elections, Malone said he had speculated the probability of the National Democratic Party led Government calling a date soon after the launch of the completed cruise pier development project.
“We had speculated that as soon as the fireworks were done and the pier was opened that the National Democratic Party would have reckoned that all of your pains and fears would have been blown away with the fireworks. However, we still have a Virgin Islands in which we are having issues which we have to come to grips with. The June 8, 2015 date was forecast also and everything is on queue. My next forecast is that the Virgin Islands Party will return a Government,” said Malone.

Think outside the box
With NDP long list of infractions added to the list, there is no honor among thieves. Ayo don't go laughing. This is a serious matter. For Al&%#* to be tangle up in such a bunch that is unfortunate but what is Sha%#a and M+&%h excuse? Both of them joining NDP comes across that they are highly comprised individuals easily seduced by money. It seems that they stand for nothing of value, nothing of morals, nothing of integrity, nothing of ethics, nothing of principles and sell themselves to the highest bidder which is simply political prostitution. M#@k could teach a seminar on this. And the problem with these character flaws is if some one like S%#@rd comes along they won't have the will to say BVI can not risk that. If VIP had not said no to him we would have been caught up in that fraud but thank God VIP was thinking about the country and not self interest. There is nothing wrong in wanting higher for yourself but it is how you go about it. You read the news and blogs and see the people crying out against the NDP. You could have run independent or with another party. If you are not part of the solution then you are part of the problem. You joined the problem. And for clarification - honor among thieves is an expression, not literal. It does not mean that any one is a thief so no, none of the above or party members are thieves.
My heart is indicting a good matter and that is a good BVI. I could have said better BVI but that would imply that it is good now and until we can have the majority say things are good with them then we are not doing well. If 3000 persons in a population of 37,000 are doing good then that is not a good BVI. And why the 3000 may want to show concern is because who you think the 37000 will turn to and look to steal and create unrest if a balance is not strike? So don't get any false illusions and think you will be sitting pretty. A good BVI is what we need to get back to. NDP you made it bad. No personal attacks here. That will not move us forward. It is better to be a best Lt. than a poor General. NDP spent too much time on frivolous things like he said and she said on blogs than attacking the real issues. And let me tell you why there are so much social medias he said and she said going on. The people have no d&%m jobs. Keep your steel toe boots on. You think if people had jobs to go to they would be blogging? Man your PR people should have figured this out. I empower people so that my time could be free up and I don't have to be bothered so much. People are their best when they are empowered.
So PEP and VIP your first assignment in 6 months is to bring the unemployment rate down by 40 percent. In 9 months bring it down by 60% and in 1 year by 70%. These are guidelines. Don't play the fool and stand before us in 2 years telling us nonsense but no jobs are secure. This isn't no welfare country we want to create. We are proud British citizens. Proud VIslanders not beggars. In 4 years employment should never go above 7%. Do that and the majority of your social issues will self correct themselves. Crimes will go down as well.
Good fit investments for the BVI growth. I look strongly to PEP Hon Christopher for this. Hon Frazer you as well. I believe both men are mature to work together and get this country back on the road. So come June 8th, people we are going to change the country beal tires from NDP to PEP & VIP, get BVI out of this ditch and on the road again.
Last and not least, PEP and VIP there shall be no victimising. NDP behaved that way because they had no one to show them the right way.
The unemployment you speak of is less than 3% in the BVI; and 99% of those affected, are because it is self-inflicted. A decision to sit on the roadside is laziness - laziness isn't unemployment. There are those that take up their last $250 and buy a grass cutter, or take a temporary hospitality job to make ends meet until better comes along. As BVI-islanders we make too many prideful excuses, and chose the easy route as opposed to making tough decisions for long-term sustainability of ourselves and country. Time to take up our own cross as bear it and stop looking for handouts and Christmas ham.
