UN’s C-24 draft resolution calls for VI’s full decolonisation

The resolution, up for consideration by the wider membership of the UN reaffirms that “in the process of decolonisation of the British Virgin Islands, there is no alternative to the principle of self-determination, which is also a fundamental human right, as recognised under the relevant human rights conventions,” a press release from Government of the VI today, Thursday, July 10, 2025, states.
The VI is one of the 17 remaining Non-Self-Governing Territories falling under the remit of the UN Special Committee on Decolonisation.
The C-24 has been mandated by the UN General Assembly to help facilitate the complete eradication of colonialism by 2030.
Concerns over Order in Council
In the draft resolution, concern is raised “that the Administering Power (UK) put an Order in Council on hold to partially suspend the Constitution if the Government of the United Kingdom assesses that the implementation of the recommendations does not proceed satisfactorily”.
It also makes note of the completion of the governance reforms as agreed upon with the United Kingdom in 2022, by the VI government.
C-24 mission visited VI in 2024
A visiting mission from C-24 was sent to the VI in August 2024 to assess the progress of decolonisation and ascertained that the Territory is ready for a full measure of self-government and should take preparatory steps.
The report also commended a UN-backed education programme on the political status options that were sanctioned by the UN to “achieve a full measure of self-government that includes integration, free association or independence”.
The draft resolution will be considered by the UN Fourth Committee (Special Political and Decolonisation) at the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York before final vote and passage by UN Member States later this year.

But then he would get no more first class travel and accommodation on our dollar to go to the UN.
In accordance to the topic issue, no decolonisation as yet until justice is first been served to the people of the B.V.I by our local political leaders, in spite of what the UN says or not says. Only those that are feeling the pressure can true testify of it negative impact, not the UN.
Independance yes, but not without better- balancing political representation for, hopefully soon, all of the people of the B.V.I
Is this too much to expect of our local political leaders?

I suggest that the UN Special Committee on Decolonisation spend time on the Caribbean islands that in recent times have sort independence and monitor their fate under alternative colonial masters.
here's a question for you tho..... what have our leaders past and old done with all our tax money that benefits us and the country in a positive way?
