Unruly parents put a damp on Prince & Princess Show

Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) Officers had stepped in to quell the situation and restore order at the Prince and Princess Show at the Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall on Sunday July, 21, 2013 after a flareup among a few patrons, one of whom was allegedly a parent of one of the contestants. ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The smooth flow and excitement of the annual Prince and Princess Show at the Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall on July 21, 2013 were rudely interrupted by a few parents who seemed eager to steal the spotlight from the children on stage, although for all the wrong reasons. Officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) even had to step in to restore order as one of the parents seemed intent on having a free for all brawl.

According to persons close to the disturbance, the problem among a few patrons allegedly stemmed from a shoving incident between two parents and a third parent reportedly stepped in. According to information received, one parent allegedly had a problem with the children of the other who she felt were traversing past her too often. It was further reported that the parent decided to pull her chair in a position to prevent the children from passing.

This news site was informed that on conclusion of the final segment, one parent attempted to pass the one that had reportedly blocked the passageway, when she was allegedly shoved. This allegedly resulted in an angry disturbance that saw other patrons stepping in to avoid the situation from escalating. It is alleged that during the attempt to pass, a child was also hit by one of the parents.

The situation subsequently escalated and drew the attention of the full auditorium when a sibling of one of the parents involved stepped up to the other parent but the two were quickly pulled apart. The sibling allegedly insisted on prolonging the disorderly behaviour.

As a local artiste was entertaining the audience following the conclusion of the final segment, the Evening Wear, there was a sudden outburst which saw a large group rushing from the inside of the hall to the lobby area. Upon investigating, it was discovered that several persons were having an up-hill task of trying to contain the sibling, who was allegedly also the parent of one of the contestants.

Persons were seen holding on to the woman, one even covering her mouth, when two RVIPF officers stepped in to restore order. Meanwhile the direct parties involved were calm as they were kept at bay from each other by the police and other parents.

Shortly after, the angry parent of one of the contestants was seen rushing back-stage with a male RVIPF officer closely following. “Man this is a children thing, it seems like somebody get she vex because of something with her child that participating but I can’t say what it is but that’s no way for a parent to behave in a function for children,” said an onlooker.

The parent’s show of anger was further obvious when she burst on and off the stage as parents were called to collect gifts that were distributed to them by Hon. Maduro-Caines in recognition of their hard work towards making the show the success it was.

The unruly behaviour by the persons involved was also heavily condemned by Chairperson of the Prince and Princess Show, Honourable Alvera Maduro-Caines. She told Virgin Islands News Online that she too was at a loss about what may have caused the disturbance. “I don’t know what the problem was but I think such a behavior was totally uncalled for. As parents we have to set an example and to create such a stir in the presence of all these children here was totally uncalled for. We cannot accept such a behavior. I totally condemn that behaviour,” said Hon Maduro-Caines.

And the sad part is that she was a parent of one of the contestants. I wouldnt say which one because I would like to spare the child the embarrassment.

This was not a fight over her child that was in the show. Neither was it instigated by her despite the person she is. She was well behaved and if it was me I would have done the samething.

That one parent blocked the row from early. Why sit on the end of a row if you don't want people to pass, people really think them is boss when they go out to different functions.

The confusion had nothing to do with any of the children participating in the show or any decision that was made. This is a friend thing where one friend stepped in for another. Unfortunately she was the parent of one of the children taking part in the show. People need to control their children when they go to these shows...always have them getting up out of their sets every minute. All should learn control in a places such as this where children come out to have a good time.

Its a show for kids...kids do get tired being in one place sitting for such long hours. Are they not supposed to get up and go to the bathroom, outside for snacks or drink and water?... Those patrons who put seats on the bleachers need to stop. It's not the first time these mishaps have occurred during shows, because of the chairs being present in the space deemed as a WALKWAY. If you know you are hampering ppl who also paid their money, there should be some kind of compromise...not jus being plain out bitchy!!!

Only in Tortola. Too many people throwing their weight around playing bad and bullying people. The very same people who act as if they are the classiest around and high in society. Ghetto to the core. Grow up and act normal..the world does not revolve around you. For Christ's sake!! It is a kids' event in an uncomfortably hot hall, adults and children are expected to move about. Practice some patience. We're really too small an island for all this drama!!

Those two kids were very rude all nite would not behave any ways. All the lady was trying to do was control them because they were getting on other people nerves. Instead the the other female (who is not their mother might i add) got offened and boost her way through.. which cause the the lady blocking to push her.
then is when the misbehaving started. it is very unfortunate that it happen at a kids show but some of us really need to control these kids of today. The father of these kids saw this going on and did NOTHING....what is really going on in this place..

This type of behavior at a public function in the presence of soo-- many children is downright out embarrassing and must not be condoned. What bad examples of parents! It's no wonder why we (the teachers) experience so much problems from some of these children. Example set; example follows! It is obvious that the sour grapes the parents ate really set the children teeth on edge. (Quote from the Bible.)

And then they wonder why the hell their kids turn out to be nothing but trouble. Then they blame everyone else except themselves when their kids end up in problems by following their stupid example. It's so sickening.

Well what do you expect MOST mothers right now who have kids in these events are walking tool box, i say this meaning that they are just RACHETS at best. You use them to turn bolts and screws not as REAL mothers, the law state they must take care of them so they do. But to instill values and how to act like a lady? HA, good luck with that although they do show and teach them how to "WUK UP" so they know how to conduct themselves on the dance floor.Mothers today look at girl children as DOLLS to dress up and look pretty, you know, like a cute puppie or in some cases a monkey.
