ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Beginning Monday, June 20, 2022, the Government of National Unity will be engaging the public in a series of meetings to discuss the final proposal submitted to the United Kingdom (UK), regarding the implementation of the Commission of Inquiry (CoI) Report recommendations.

This was disclosed by Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7).

The CoI Report had recommended suspension of the local constitution, dissolution of the House of Assembly and implementation of direct rule from London.

This recommendation has been rejected by Virgin Islanders and the Government and Opposition have since joined forces to form a coalition government to show the UK the territory is united against direct rule and elected representatives were willing to cross party lines to move the VI forward, with the help of the UK.

Town hall meetings

These town hall meetings will provide you with a direct forum to share your perspective and ideas on how we reform government and improve the Virgin Islands.

We want to engage you on changes to the way government handles the public business. Not only do we want to hear your feedback, we also want to know how you think the public should be involved in the reform process. Your feedback will be key to our work as a government going forward,” Dr Wheatley highlighted in a statement broadcast live today, June 2, 2022.

In addition to reform, Dr Wheatley said the Unity Government also wants to hear the public’s views on schools, healthcare, the environment and the business climate. “These are issues that affect you and your families’ daily lives and livelihoods.”

Dr Wheatley said the schedule for the town hall meetings will be published next week on the government's website.

More consultation meetings planned

The Premier also stated that the upcoming public meetings are just the beginning of the government’s wider public engagement plans.

He said stakeholder meetings will be scheduled with the tourism industry, financial services industry, construction industry, retailers, wholesalers, small businesses, farmers and fisherfolk on what changes are needed to make the economy more “dynamic and vibrant” so that there is economic opportunity for all.

"Let me speak, don't interrupt me, and let me and sub my garbage down your throat. Well guess what, Andrew was on the path to dictatorship and he trained him well.

Goes like this. UK to call for and indentify candidates in the community (young, professionals, educated, who understand things like conflict of interest and whistle blowing) who have real potential to run a country with sense, train them up quickly and put them in place as the overseers of the recommendations for better governance for a period of two years. Call elections after the two years by which time the recommendations will be well implemented. Aim. To suspend the current ones who make up the national assinninity government (NAG) as soon as possible and place them on helpful training, to be eligible for re-election in no sooner than 5 years, if they can prove that they are then competent.

I am tired of listening to politicians wordstwisting lies.
Pride, lies, pretence and deceptive tactics, in reference to our finances mismanagement are still a continuing practice in the BVI. I preferred the CoI reported of our politicians misdeed.
Crookedness is the norm, righteousness the exception, even so by many, not all, church leaders, self exauled, and human appointed ones.

The featured picture is interested. It portrays the intended message well. If that is so I wonder why some people wore it so proudly.

You need to stop trying to blame expats. The overwhelming majority of people that are asking for UK intervention are not expats. You are trying to further divide the community. Your big mistake is to blame expats and make derive comments about them. Calling them "hateful foreigners" does not advance your cause. Like so many others, I too do not think that the newly minted Unity Government is incapable of bringing about the sweeping reforms and changes that are necessary to right this ship. The remnants from the VIP party were all there cheering on the former Premier and praising him as he went about dismantling and wrecking whatever vestiges of good governance remained. They were all complicit because they were too afraid to be placed on the back bench. They put position over the country. They acted cowardly, but are now trying to act as if they were not present. They were in full support of everything he did. Expecting them to fix the problems is like going to the devil for justice. Moreover, they offered no dissent. They were all in. They wasted precious time advocating for, and helping to organize and even participated in the useless protest instead of spending the precious time on formulating a plan to present to the UK. This would have been a more worthwhile effort to stave off the very thing they were protesting about, "direct rule". The Clines and the other opportunists who were just lobbying to keep their privileged position of feeding from every government trough. The real setback of the Territory is not the threat of direct rule (something I too am opposed to). The real set back is the graft, corruption and malfeasance. This has set the Territory back hundreds of years. Stop dumbing down the BVI. We know better and deserve better.

"This recommendation has been rejected by Virgin Islanders" ....so what about those who didn't rejected it. There are alot of Virgin Islanders who say let the UK come but those who don't want it call them all kind of names. I guess their voices don't matter. I bet you guys won't hold a vote, let BVI locals go to a voting station and choose whether UK rule or No UK rule and submit the majority. Y'all are too scared UK rule vote would have majority.
