ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI– In what critics have been viewing as a backward step in the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), United Kingdom (UK) national Ms Pam Trevillion was sworn in as the new Assistant Commissioner of Police on November 23, 2022.

Critics of the appointment have stated there was no need to import an Assistant Commissioner of Police from the UK when there are many local Senior Inspectors who are qualified to carry out the post.

Locals promoted

Many also see the hiring of Trevillion as a clever way for the Police Commissioner, Mr Mark Collins, to run the force, with his Assistant Commissioner.

Ms Trevillion will be reporting directly to the Commissioner of Police, also a UK national.

Two locals, St Clair Amory and Jacqueline E. Vanterpool also received their certificates of appointment as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Operations and DCP Support respectively, from His Excellency Governor John J. Rankin, CMG in a short ceremony at Governor’s House.

Mr Amory had previously served as acting Assistant Commissioner while Ms Vanterpool has been Acting Deputy Commissioner since January 2022.

Persons gathered for the ceremony included the Premier, Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7), Deputy Governor David D. Archer Jr, Deputy Premier Kye M. Rymer (R5), and other members of the National Security Council as well as members of the Police Service Commission headed by Ms Rosalia Gardener.

Time to stop badmouthing our Governor John J Rankin, the RVIPF Commissioner, Mark Collins, and the new appointed Pam Travillion, assistant CoP, base on the colour of the skin, and their country of birth.

Just yesterday most VINO wrote well of the former Premier, Andrew A. Fahie, but when many of us black skin people native and others have spoken and have commened about white skin people, we speak as if they are children of the devil, but only we are children of God.

If you hate white skin that much, why don't you go to black dentist, pull out all your white teeth, and replace the with black coloured false teeth? Would you?
Please understand haters you are a multicoloured human, so are they that you are continuing badmouthing.

Vote your conscience. Like or dislike.

You cannot trust local police to investigate their own without bias and coverup: that is the real problem.

Actually, history has shown that white UK Commissioners have covered up more. There are whites here doing bad things but they are never investigated. The wild and lewd parties are kept secrets. Under UK commissioners, crime has always been worst.

So stop the propaganda and mind control tactics. t's all about the power you all don't want locals to have the power of running the police force. The corruption and incompetence that plagues the Uk is mind-boggling. There is a former high-level officer who was charge, but he is allowed to avoid arrest by coming in an out of the island while the top brass pretends they didn't know he was on the island and left it is alleged. He kicked a fellow officer a good man who was only trying to help him and save the force from been embarrass under the bus.

As long as they develop a culture where the corrupt officer fears the incorruptible officer they will be alright.

Corruption in the force is not only when someone involves in illegal activities but also when they choose to promote a convict constable to sergeant. It is immoral and corruptible as well.

Wow - these comments make me nervous. I am a tourist who just spent a wonderful week on Tortola and my husband and I would love to come back again. We loved the unpretentious, relaxing feel of Tortola and thought the island locals we’re very pleasant. After reading some of the above comments - locals vs whites- are you not a territory of the Inited Kingdom? Do you not enjoy the financial benefits of having UK money in your operating budgets? So why couldn’t a qualified white, UK candidate be able to accept a job in Tortola? While I can understand concerns over politicians hiring their friends (yes we have that issue here in the United States and all over the world), having the all the candidates credentials listed and hiring process transparent - actually all government records made public, should at least help residents understand why someone was chosen. Transparency is key- this news site must be unbiased and report both sides of issues thoroughly. The color divide must stop or you will hurt your tourist industry.
