ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The United Kingdom’s anti-corruption champion, the Rt Honourable Baroness Margaret Hodge, DDE, said the United Kingdom (UK) is willing to assist the Virgin Islands (VI) in sourcing funding for the runway project at the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport.

Baroness Hodge arrived in the Territory last Monday, September 22, 2025, to assess progress in implementing commitments on beneficial ownership registers and met with key figures in the Territory’s financial services sector during her visit.

During a short meeting with the press on September 25, 2025, Baroness Hodge gushed about the UK Overseas Territory.

“I am stunned by the beauty of the island, and I think it's got massive potential in all sorts of ways.”

Potential support for the airport runway project

The Business Case on the expansion of the runway at the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport was submitted by KPMG in April 2025. Although it has not been made public yet, the report supports the runway’s expansion.

Baroness Hodge said it took her 17 hours to get here, adding that one of the things that would have perhaps helped was an improved runway.

“We’re talking about how we can perhaps support, you know, the government in trying to find funding for the runway. Just think about it, eight hours, eight, nine hours, direct flights, I think would support tourism beautifully.”

Diversify the economy

Meanwhile, Baroness Hogde also said that while the Territory is doing well with its financial services sector, the economy should be diversified.

“Don't think that because your financial services sector is doing well and contributing a lot, that that actually is sustainable over the longer run. My view, it's not.”

She reiterated the view of growing the financial services sector, explaining, “If you cleaned it up, you could grow it. And it will probably be even more effective and valuable to you here in the economy.”

It was on that note that Baroness Hodge said she would also diversify the economy.

“I mean…building your tourism industry is just so obvious.”

    This we already know

"The Business Case on the expansion of the runway at the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport was submitted by KPMG in April 2025. Although it has not been made public yet, the report supports the runway’s expansion." The second sentence is all that you need to know, and it is a serious red flag that signals this project will be yet another White Elephant. (apologies for the numerous metaphors)

these are the things local governments should be requesting the Owners of This British Overseas Territory To Be Helping With: Ask them to come Here and Fix the Public Infrastructure and Help Us With 24 Hours of Running Water

All the leaders persist on doing is pull down the Land Lord: reach out to Buckingham More Often and See How quickly they set us free

What lies have our politicians been telling her.

Extending the runway will not mean direct flights from the UK.

THIS IS LIES. That is why the report is SECRET.

At best we will get flights from 3 more places on the East Coast of the US. People in the US will still have to fly there to connect to the VI just like they do now flying to Puerto Rico or Miami or St Thomas.

A Longer runway changes nothing for VI expect guarantees bad roads and infrastructure for longer and more money for the Corrupt families and their friends.

This runway extention is built on the LIE that there will be 8 hour flights from the UK.

SHOW THE REPORTS> STOP THE LIES.

The extention of the Terence B. Airport definitely is not one of our top five (5) priority needs in the short term. Accepting the UK'S help is vital in almost all areas of large financial ventures, but not without careful input by our citizens. Because when all have been said, agreeded to, signed, done, and in progress, the financial burden will be on us, our children, and grand children, and their children, and their children, and grand children shoulders to carry, not the UK'S government, neither the current greedy local politicians, that have raised theirs salary secretely, and unreasonable, and other HoA staff, too, according to resent report leaked to the public, at the expense minimum wage workers, and other low income earners that are suffering hardship, daily.

Note: Give people chances to prove themselves, but trust only in God's, our Creator promises, especially in reference to life security, human relationships, and money matters.

commercial air flights will never land in the BVI for a number of reasons that have nothing to do with the length of the Beef island runway.
    1) Tortola infrastructure is decades behind the first world.
    2) The ground service requirements for long distance trans oceanic aircraft will not be available on Tortola until the infrastructure is brought up to 1st world standards.
    3) Tortola is surrounded by 4 airports that can easily handle long distance transatlantic flights: STT, STX, St. Martin, San Juan,PR.
The only exception is military transatlantic planes can already land on the current runway.
