BEEF ISLAND, VI- Some officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police (RVIPF) were recently involved in a week-long training in port security offered by the United Kingdom (UK) Government.

According to the Office of the Governor, the week of training was part of an ongoing commitment to enhancing port security in the [British] Virgin Islands (VI).

The course, the Office of the Governor stated on social media on February 23, 2024, included theory and practical exercises, with deployments at the ferry dock in Road Town, the cruise terminal and Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport.

Gov Pruce meets RVIPF officers

Governor Daniel Pruce also met with the officers from the Royal Virgin Islands Police who took part.

“He thanked them for their efforts and recognised that they are at the forefront of the fight against the illegal shipment of narcotics and firearms,” the Office of the Governor stated.

Security of the territory is the responsibility of the Governor, although politicians tend to get the blame for shortcomings in that area.

    OK.
But please remember that the DAILY OPERATIONS at the port, police, immigration and customs rests with those departments and not the Governor. The BVI government needs to fund them budget wise accordingly. We all remember Governor Duncan move a few years ago to get police funds. Hmm.
