ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Several residents of the Virgin Islands were today, December 18, 2019, left astonished and spooked by a mysterious light moving across the night sky in the early hours of the morning.

"This morning Wednesday, December 18th 2019, we saw this and it wasn’t fireworks, it wasn’t a plane, it wasn’t a meteor, it wasn’t a drone, it wasn’t a rocket, but it appeared an object with a bright shining light moving it travelling in one direction and then 2 minutes later then disappeared....we were all just as astonished," Facebook user Phil Hast said with an accompanying video via a post in the BVI Community Board.

According to the publisher of the video, it was taken facing east, towards the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex in Road Town, Tortola in the wee hours of the morning.

Similar sightings in USVI & T&T

In the almost two minute video, a white light can be seen moving in the sky some distance away before finally vanishing as it dissipated into darkness. Similar sightings were spotted in the US Virgin Islands (USVI), Trinidad and Tobago and as far a Guyana; however, the object remains unidentified.

Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) reached out to the British Virgin Islands Airport Authority (BVIAA) to find out if the authority received any reports of the sighting and whether the lighted object can be identified; however, no response was received up to publication time.

Many in the VI Community are speculating that the object might have been an Alien UFO; however, some are indicating that the lights could have originated from the space rocket, Soyuz Flight VS23 launched into orbit this morning from Spaceport, French Guiana (Guiana Space Center) at 05:54:20 A.M.

Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) will bring more information as they become available.
