Two doctors to testify in ESHS teacher’s indecent assault case
Dr. J. S. Archibald, who appeared this morning January, 23 2012 for the first time on behalf of Mr. Evans, made the application in the Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Tamia Richards.
Evans was to be sentenced today, however, Dr. Archibald informed the court that he got involved in the case after mitigation would have been heard. He disclosed that Dr. Heskith Vanterpool and Dr. Marjorie Yee-Sing were willing to reveal Evans’ medical plight.
In light of this, Crown Counsel Christilyn Benjamin said she had no objection to Dr. Archibald’s application.
Evans, 52, of Lower Estate was found guilty of indecent assault late last year. The pastor for 16 years was accused of fondling a then 13 year-old student of the ESHS where he had taught for many years.
The offence was reportedly committed on June 4, 2010 at the school. Evans had entered a not guilty plea and the trial started on March 17, 2011 where some seven witnesses were called.
It was reported that Evans touched the private parts of the VC while asking her the whereabouts of her mother. He had reportedly placed the student on his lap also and was only discouraged when the VC attempted to injure him with a piece of metal.
Evans had said that he hugged the student in an act of consoling her after she had indicated to him that she had difficulties with Mathematics.
The maximum penalty for Evans' offense is five years imprisonment.
