Twenty/20 Final plans all set for Sunday July 28!
Although the main feature, the final itself, is scheduled for a 2 P.M. start, there will be much for spectators to watch and participate in from 11 A.M.
A clash between the “best of the rest” gets the action underway at 11 A.M. with two teams, containing players from the other teams that took part in the Tournament, going at it in a 15-over a side “slug fest”.
Around 1:30 P.M. the VIP’s will meet and greet the two teams as they line up on the field and then after the National Anthems and Territorial songs the game will start and so will the entertainment.
During the first innings, Digicel will be giving away various offers and prizes as well as accepting Top Ups.
Between innings, Digicel will ramp up the participation and prizes with a “Hit the Stump” competition which will see three lucky draw winners testing their skills for prizes by bowling balls at the wickets.
After the Game, the BVICA will be presenting various Trophies for the Winners, Runners Up, Man of the Match, Leading Run Scorer and Leading Wicket Taker.
Currently, Cavaliers player Teddy Nankishore is well ahead in the run scoring charts and in line for the $500 cash prize with 445 runs. Although Austin McDowall of Vincy has been in fine form of late and remains the only other player still in the competition, even he is a long way behind Nankishore. Maxford Pipe, who also plays for the Vincy, would have been a candidate as well, but he is currently in England and will miss the final.
The bowling award, also worth $500 to the winner, is far less cut and dried with three players involved in Sunday’s Final all in with a good shout of over hauling current leader Richard Fredericks. Fredericks the only spinner in the top 5 and finished his tournament on 15 wickets when the Vikings were eliminated by the Cavaliers last weekend. In second place with 14 wickets is Kendrick Leslie (Vincy C.C.), joint third are Julian Sinclair (Cavaliers) and Morry Olivierre (Vincy C.C.).
Leslie seems to have the Golden Arm in this year’s tournament and has been instrumental in his teams more consistent performances. He has the knack of picking up wickets in bunches and could well prove the danger man again on Sunday when the Vincy will look to stop the Cavaliers run of Championships and be crowned the 2013 Digicel Twenty/20 Champions.
