T&T & Dominica cop top awards @ 1st Annual Caribbean Baking Awards

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) and Dominica have copped top awards at the First Annual Caribbean Baking Awards held in the [British] Virgin Islands on February 16 and 17, 2024, at Multi-Purpose Sports Complex and Maria’s by the Sea respectively.

Trinidad and Tobago, represented by Dexter Cambridge, won the Best of Show, which came with it a cash prize of two thousand dollars and other prizes.

Cambridge’s cake was titled 'Queen of Bacchanal' dedicated to Trinidad’s soca icon Destra Garcia.

Dominica, led by Akim Ismael, won First Place in the Caribbean Baking Awards Wine and Cake Tasting Competition, which brought together the most talented bakers from across the Caribbean.

The Dominica team included Jodie Dublin-Dangleben of Jaydees Naturals, Tamara Lewis-Celestine, Jodie Shillingford-Trew from Jodie's Sweet Art, and Leandra Lander from Lovelee Things.

Rising Star and Cake Hero awards

Ismael was also the recipient of the Rising Star and Cake Hero awards, which were determined by popular vote online.

St Vincent & The Grenadines, represented by Jessica Bess, came in second in the Caribbean Baking Awards Wine and Cake Tasting Competition, while Antigua and Barbuda, represented by Timoy A. Titus, came in third.

LSL Bakery voted Best Bakery

The Virgin Islands did not participate in the Baking Competition but was nominated in the Best Bakery category.

LSL Bakery of Virgin Gorda emerged the winner.

The awards ceremony for the 2-day event took place at Maria's by the Sea last evening, February 17, 2024.

      That Jesus cake wasn't blasphemous as it wasn't Jesus, but rather Bob Marley. The baker is from Jamaica and included a photo of Bob Marley which was the inspiration for her design.

          It was trinidad celebration and his inspiration was queen of bacchanal Destra. Can you do any better?
