Tropical Wave approaching VI
According to information from the BVI Department of Disaster Management (DDM), today, Saturday, August 2, 2025, this approaching system will enhance shower activity for the next 24 hours.
A Tropical Wave is a type of atmospheric trough, an elongated area of relatively low air pressure, oriented north to south, which moves from east to west across the tropics, causing areas of cloudiness and thunderstorms.
At the start of July, Director of DDM Mr Jason H. Penn advised residents to continue preparations and to continue exercising caution during the hurricane season, which runs from June 1 to November 30 every year.
Hurricane Season activity to increase
Mr Penn had explained that the Southern Caribbean was experiencing some increased wet conditions from “vigorous waves”. These waves have now begun moving northwards.
“So now is the time for us to really pay attention; we should be more or less way into our preparations," he said.
Members of the public should ensure they get their weather updates from official sources such as the DDM's app, via radio and its official social media pages, as well as the information shared by the GIS.
The VI has an overall readiness score of 74% for the 2025 Hurricane Season.
