Trial for pig farmer pushed back
Hodge, who hails from Fish Bay, is charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and reckless and neglect act. He was expected to stand trial on October 31, 2011.
However, since Hodge’s lawyer, Herbert McKenzie was overseas the Crown was not able to give him the documents needed to defend his client. In light of this, both sides have to report to court on November 21 to decide a new trial date.
According to court reports, at around 6:30 a.m. on August 17, 2011, the Virtual Complainant (VC) was cutting weed along the Brandywine public road when Hodge allegedly drove up and asked him if he did not see him coming.
It is alleged that the defendant got upset, came out of the vehicle with an iron object, then returned to his vehicle and reverse, drove forward with some speed hitting the VC on his right hand and ankle.
Reports indicate that Hodge then came out of his vehicle, picked up a weed cutter and approached the VC, however, he dropped it got back into his vehicle and drove away. A report was made to the East End Police Station by the VC and he was transported to Peebles Hospital where he was treated for lacerations to his leg and bruises to his forearm.
On the same day when Hodge arrived at the East End Police Station, and was informed of the charges he told officers, “I have nothing to say to ayo”.
