UPPER GROSVENOR STREET, London, UK- As the Virgin Islands celebrates some 20 years of the BVI London Office being in operation, there remains the issue of the non-confirmation of its acting Director.

The London Office, which was established in 2002 by then Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal OBE (now deceased), has continued to make all Virgin Islanders and other residents proud of the work the office has done over the 20 years in representing the interest of the Territory in the UK and the European Union (EU).

The office has seen many Directors, many of whom were confirmed to the post.

However, after first being appointed in 2019 to act as the Director, Ms Tracy Bradshaw has to date not been appointed/confirmed to the post after acting for nearly four years.

Many in the Virgin Islands, including elected officials, have praised Bradshaw's extraordinary work and her professionalism as the Director (ag.) of the BVI London Office.

Bradshaw is qualified

Bradshaw, who was first assigned to the BVI London Office in 2015 on secondment and remained there, is very qualified for the top post.

The Premier‘s Office has been tight-lipped over her continued acting appointment and elected Members have made representation to the current and former Premier over the matter.

Ms Bradshaw, a Virgin Islander, is also an Attorney at law.

Many civil servants see it as unfair and injustice to have public officers acting in a post for so long.

Personnel in the Deputy Governor's Office referred our news centre to the Premier’s Office on this matter.

This isn't news Government always has actors acting in position for years. I think that after 1 year or 2 years you should know if the person can do the job or not. Instead of just using them and then giving the position to someone else having acting for so many years.

Do you know that to be true? You don't.

She's one of the most proficient, educated, deserving, professional Ag Directors that they have ever had. To not confirm her is a disservice to the country and to her. She's a hell of an asset and the BVI is lucky to have her. If she decided to walk away, many would grab her in a heart beat. She can work ANY WHERE in the world. There's hardly one that can walk in her shoes. Perhaps if other department heads ran theirs the way she ran hers, the Government on a whole would be running like a well oiled machine.

And to you......perhaps you might want to practice some self-love before downing others. Especially when you don't know a darn thing about them. That's very telling of you as an individual.

My friends, I acted for 15 years in the BVI Government. Many are paying now and other will pay for this, that and other grave injustices to people who only want to grow and improve the BVI above personal gain.

I know of what you speak. I acted for 17 years. And I am going to say it loud and clear, this didn't happen before we had all these computers and a group of young people running the Human Resources Office and the Government. Yes, I said it. Seems to me, that these young people care only about themselves and friends and family. The rest of us can go away. Mrs. Crabbe and Ms. Weston of blessed memory ran that office, WITHOUT COMPUTERS, and were able to do a better job. When you take on a job where the name 'Human is in your job description when it comes to their work on the job, words like "fairness", "love" and "reciprocity" should be a part of your vocabulary. There is nothing wrong with appointing someone temporarily, but having someone act in a post for more than a year is ludicrous. Acting in a position upwards of five years while you stand aside and look, well, maybe you are the one not doing your job.

BVI's London office is a waste of taxpayers money for the last 20 years. It's just an excuse for a group of BVI civil servants to live year round in London and get paid handsomely for that privilege. The expensive London office and its staff is just a constant drain on the BVI Treasury. Please close this useless London office and bring the staff back to the BVI as soon as possible.
