LONDON, UK- Just over a month after Mary Elizabeth Truss aka Liz Truss replaced the controversial Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (UK), Conservative MPs are already plotting to replace her as party leader on account of her disastrous first month in office, a senior Tory has said.

Paul Goodman, the editor of the influential ConservativeHome website, said Rishi Sunak and Penny Mordaunt were among MPs being tapped as possible replacements for the prime minister.

It comes after Ms Truss's first budget in office saw the pound tank and interest rates on government and mortgage debt surge.

Heads have already started to roll in the Truss-led Government, with Kwasi Kwarteng being sacked as chancellor.

Elections if Truss fails to regain confidence in leadership- Tory Member

And a top Welsh Tory said there should be a general election if Liz Truss cannot "regain confidence" in her leadership.

Mr Andrew R. T. Davies said it was important for Ms Truss to "turn this situation around".

According to the BBC today, October 14, 2022, in an interview with Times Radio, he said: "It's important now that we reflect on where we're at, the prime minister seeks to regain that confidence, and if she can't regain that confidence, it would be right that people have their chance to have their say on this matter".

The prime minister, who is a former Minister for Overseas Territories and was responsible for the controversial reserved Order in Council to suspend the Virgin Islands Constitution at the whim of the Governor, has faced calls to drop parts or all of her economic plan for days, to calm market turbulence and reassure her party.

Can’t trust Truss?

The BBC also reported that Plaid Cymru Westminster leader Liz Saville Roberts called for Ms Truss to quit, accusing her of seeking "to save her zombie premiership by making a scapegoat of Kwasi Kwarteng".

"She was the driver of this car crash, she must therefore take responsibility," Ms Roberts said.

"Liz Truss must recognise that the economic shock which has caused so much anxiety for people is her own fault. She must resign today."

Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats Jane Dodds said Ms Truss should call a general election.

"This economic crisis we have been facing wasn't started by Kwasi Kwarteng alone, it was a direct consequence of Liz Truss' economic fantasies," she said.

The UK is plagued by a myriad of issues, ie, economic, social, political, etc. The British Empire was vast and profitable. The UK used enslaved labour, cheap labour, a steady stream of commodities, ie, sugar, cotton, tobacco, precious metals, spices, etc, from its colonies to build its economy and military might. Well, the pink of the empire is gone and its economy is facing some challenges. On the social side, though the Empire was huge comprising direct races, the UK still faces racial challenges. Brexit was driven somewhat by at least a tinge of racial concerns, ie, citizens from poorer European countries coming into the UK. It cut off its nose to spite its face. Conservatism is not compatible with the needs of poor and marginalized people and communities. In regards to the political, some factions in Northern Ireland are advocating for unification. Some in Wales want independence as do some in Scotland. In many former colonies which are part of the Commonwealth in which King Charles III is head of state, they are debating becoming republics, ie, Antigua and Barbuda, Jamaica , etc. The Empire is gone so is the UK in a heap of trouble? Is there focus on the OTs a distraction from what is happening at home in the UK.
