Too many sudden deaths in VI - Commentator

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – One commentator is of the view that there are too many sudden deaths occurring in the Territory and has called for the intervention of relevant authorities to inform the public on the issue.

Commentator Julio Sam Henry made the observation while hosting the Speak Your Mind TV show aired on March 22, 2014 and said many people are dying and the public is not hearing or understanding the cause of their sudden demise.

“I think we as a community, we need to hold our politicians accountable,” Henry said while urging Health Minister Hon. Ronnie W. Skelton to look into the sudden deaths.

He said information should be forthcoming, once available, to ease the minds of residents that there is no chronic issue responsible for the apparent phenomenon.

“We need to know, people you should be demanding answers. Don’t wait until it’s your brother or your sister… your mother or father or cousin or somebody you know and you love very much,” Henry urged.

“You wake up one day and you hear that they’re dead and you’re asking these questions,” he added, “don’t wait until it hits home. We should be asking the questions regardless.”

Henry said there have been about six reported deaths since the start of the year where people have been found dead in their homes and he said something needs to be done about it. “We need to look into it.”

The talk show host said investigations might be called for in other developed countries if this were the case and said similar concerns should be shared within the Territory.

He also recommended that a thorough investigation be done and the findings be put in a statistical form that can be put to the public to ease their concerns or indicate that the persons may have died of natural causes.

Further, he suggested a letter should be written to the Governor to request that the spate of deaths be investigated.

(We) need to look into nothing. People live and people die Mr. Henry. If the Medical Examiner found nothing, why must (We) dig deeper. Do you have the money to spend to dig deeper? If so, by all means do so, but not another cent of my contribution going towards your need to know. We listen to the radio, we read of the deaths online and the information is on the street. If you want to start tallying I encourage you to open excel on your computer and start putting your data in. When you have concluded, put that information in a graph and publish it. You now have what you want to know.

Huhhh!!!! You can stop death, the bible warns us of unforseen occurrences. Some of us have health issues that we dont know about, and ignore, and some of us hate going to the doctor. Even those that check themselves regularly, may still die a sudden death. I am pretty sure when these "sudden deaths" occur an autopsy has to be performed. That is the trigger and if there is anything suspicious the autopsy should reveal it. Other than that, there isnt a damn thing, the Minister, You nor me can do about it.

Sam Henry, why is everything politically motivated. People are going to die whether is due to illness or suddenly. The politicians have nothing to do with people dying. I am pretty sure if there was something cause these deaths the public would have been aware of the problem. Stop trying to stir up the dust. You obiviously did not read the article that was published on the Deniah O'neal, a problem her parents never knew she had. All these individuals have been laid to rest, let them rest in peace.

It is about time tht Sam gets a grip. What is wrong with our people? What is there for the Minister of Health to look into. Many people have ailments and illnesses that they are not even aware of. Often times we don't understand the symptoms and treat them as if we know what they are. Many people don't even visit their doctors to get a regular medical examination because they "feel fine." Why is everything made political? Sam needs to find something worthwhile and stop polluting the airwaves with his folly and ignorance. His level of ignorance is becoming intolerable.

Sam when you people can’t find something sensible or positive to go public with, just say nothing at all. If the deaths were ALL in a specific village/ district then I can see a need for concern. Otherwise you just talking bull……..how in the world can Government be held accountable for our deaths. Life is NOT promised to any of us, therefore, none of us know when it is our time to die. Furthermore, unless it was a crime where we are receiving constant updates, the media is NOT obligated to inform the public of the person’s autopsy. If the family wishes to make it publically known it’s up to them. Since you seem so worried and want to know the reason for everyone’s death, instead of driving taxi and trying to be heard and seen all the time, go and become a pathologist.

Who paying you to come up with these stupid @#$@#$% topics??? Is only now I'm convince you got nothing better to do than turn the community against the government with that comment that we have to hold the politicians responsible....responsible for what?? that someone died??? I guess no one is allowed to die once the NDP is in power.... He need to go do find a different tree to go bark up.

Sam you for one must be crazy cause when the taxi had their say about the cruise ship dealing, you were the one talking about having meeting with the premier and min. for communication. when all was said you came back with nothing to say to the other members in the taxi organization. So Mr. Henry don't ask or demand answers. for when you get behind closed doors you forget about others when you come out.

In the sweet bye and bye we shall meet on that beautiful shore! Is this not what the most of the christian believers in the Virgin Islands believe? Well! Get real my friend, or just tell death to send you an e-mail and let you know when he is coming your way, that way it will not be unexpected. Or just let nature do what it do. As far as I see this is the first time that they are dying.
