ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- After their semi-final game in the recent King of the Courts Caribbean Championships ended in controversy at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex on May 17, 2025, Tola and USVI Elites will face off in a rematch on June 7, 2025.

Apart from settling the score, $7500.00 will be up for grabs.

“Let's do it again!! The Replay Game is coming!! Saturday, June 7th Multi-Purpose Complex Tortola BVI!! Tola vs USVI, one game winner takes it all, $7500 Cash Prize!!” a post on the King of the Courts Facebook page stated.

“Yes, we are supposed to come back and play....,” USVI coach Lanese Bough told Virgin Islands News Online.

USVI Elites were supposed to play the Third Place game of the King of the Courts Caribbean Championships on May 18, 2025, but boycotted due to their disgruntlement over their controversial loss to Tola the night before.

Controversy

With seconds to go in the semi-final game and Tola leading 70-67, the impressive Zion Jones scored what appeared to be a clutch 4-pointer; however, the referee signalled it was a 3-pointer plus a foul. With the pressure on Jones to score the one point from the free throw line to win the game for the USVI, he was only able to hit the rim, and so the game was thrown into overtime.

This apparent earlier error seemed to frustrate the USVI players and took the fight out of them in overtime play.

Tola eventually won 87-84, although the USVI did manage to get off a final shot from long range that could have either sent the game into double overtime or given USVI Elites the win.

It is alleged that video replays have confirmed that the shot by Jones should have registered as a 4-pointer.

VG Bayside Blazers went on to defeat Tola in the final and are the champions of the 2025 King of the Courts Caribbean Championships.

It was a 4 pointer so USVI win the first game. Now its a rematch for Tola who would have actually lost by one or two points. I'll be scooping a VIP seat with popcorn for the rematch.

Leave your pride at the door. Practice now and get ready to show out. We support you. Don't let USVI take the prize.

This should not happen. A win is a win. This could never had happen if the games was in St. Thomas the BVI had lost. Why is BVI so soft.

No, BVI not soft, is that Tola team soft. VG has the best team all around, those guys played with poise & character. Tola always feel they’re #1 when they’re a bunch of selfish pompous losers.

Since we know who is behind organising this event, I wonder how much the Govt is paying?
