Tiondre Frett wins VI’s lone medal @ 51st CARIFTA Games

ST GEORGE’S, Grenada- The [British] Virgin Islands (VI) won its only medal at the 51st edition of the CARIFTA Games in Grenada on April 1, 2024, and it came in historic fashion.

15-year-old Tiondre Frett etched his name in CARIFTA Games history for the VI when he became the first [British] Virgin Islands’ athlete to medal in the U17 Boys 200m.

Frett powered to a bronze medal in a Personal Best (PB) time of 22.18 seconds at Kirani James Stadium.

The race was won by Kadeem Chinapoo of Trinidad and Tobago in 21.78.

Securing silver was Oshane Jervis of Jamaica in 22.16.

Frett had also reached the final of the U17 Boys 100m where he placed 6th in 10.88 seconds.

    This young athlete has shown a lot of potentials and is someone that would make it in the future if he continues to train hard and maintain his fitness and discipline. From seeing his first run in the 100 meters semi finals I saw his athleticism. Sorry that you didn't get that deserved medal in the 4x100m relay.

    I want to see BVI taking part in more events. There are a lot of youths here and you have better facilities and opportunity than many other Caribbean countries. They need to take part in the swimming competitions too.
