HANDSOME BAY, Virgin Gorda, VI – Three persons are now homeless following a fire at an apartment building in Handsome Bay, Virgin Gorda last evening January 2, 2013.

The two-storey apartment building, owned by Elias Samuel, is said to have been occupied by the three persons at the time of the incident.

The fire reportedly occurred around 10:45 P.M. According to authentic sources, the fire gutted the house in a matter of minutes.

At the time, one of the persons was reportedly asleep. However, there were no reports of any injuries as a result of the blaze nor were there any minors in the building.

Sources said fire fighters arrived promptly on the scene but were unable to do much to save the upper flat of the building.

Occupants of the house were reportedly only able to escape with the clothes on their backs and very little household effects.

Maybe when the Water Dept shuts off the water each night to refill the reservoir, they should consider emergencies and why aren't the hydrants plumbed direct. Still don't understand why the Dept thinks they are saving soooooo much water to refill their tanks between 10pm & 5am (thank you for considering our daytime needs but not feeling that many of us are actually using much water at these times) that it is worth risking peoples lives & homes in the event of an emergency.
