ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The inaugural call of the UberSoca Cruise (USC) in the Virgin Islands (VI) saw thousands of passengers disembark on Tortola.

USC’s 11th edition aboard the Norwegian Encore, the largest ship in the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet, docked at the Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park in Road Town, Tortola, on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, on the third day of the cruise.

Passengers received a warm welcome with a cultural display at the Pier Park with drummers, dancers, and Moko Jumbies.

Several regional artists, who perform aboard the ship nightly, also disembarked on Tortola.

J’ouvert 'Punk Rock' Edition

The VI, through the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sustainable Development, organised a J’ouvert 'Punk Rock' Edition.

USC passengers, along with locals, danced, sang, and had a good time on the streets of Road Town, covered in powder from head to toe.

Revellers also proudly flew and waved flags of their respective countries, as the J’ouvert 'Punk Rock' Edition, like the UberSoca Cruise, proved to be a space for Caribbean unity of a shared love for a good time and culture.

Econmic impact

Junior Minister for Tourism and Culture, Hon Luce D. Hodge-Smith (R4), ahead of the cruise’s arrival, had said it is expected to contribute to the local economy.

"With six to eight hours ashore of the contribution, it's estimated $15 per hour, to the economy with over 4,000 passengers. So we could generate approximately $350 to $420,000 in spending,” she said during a press conference on November 7, 2025.

Attempts to reach Hon Hodge-Smith and Premier and Minister for Tourism, Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) were unsuccessful up to the time of publishing.

This news centre will continue to follow this story to bring official figures as they relate to the number of people who disembarked and the revenue generated from the event.

350,000 is very optimistic. Try removing two zeroes. That's more realistic.

Hodge-Smith noted that the figure could climb to $750,000 overall when indirect and induced impacts are included.

    Was it all a lie?

    It was definitely fun.

    It was well run.

    Great clean up.

But hard to see where anyone on that street spent $1.

Government spent $500,000 for another party.

A fun party! They put on a great party

It does not feel like they are running a Territory.

They for sure are not fit to run an Independent Country.

How many thousands you claim was in the streets, it was stupid. How many of the thousands that were in the streets had a good bath/shower last night or this morning due to the lack of water.

Most Workers get half day off to de-stress,relax,drink rum and party - yaaaayyy

School closed at half day to allow students and teachers to catch a quick break - yaaaaaaaaay

Students showing up to the uber party in their PE clothes and school tights and some still in uniform.....- huh??

Songs blasting in the speakers about she luv gunman up in she hole........... - huh????

the same gunman that we denounced and had crime summit for with the youths??? weird....

then yall wonder why so much minors dressing half naked, drinking rum on the festival grounds to the point you had to beg grown adults no to sell rum to minors!!!(they might be confused cuz the minors dress like grown women)

Then yah wonder why so much youths drop out school and involved in gangs like the money boys robbing people at gun point to support their fast life and party life that WE the bvi promote!

I think somthing more productive should of been in place to keep the youths them occupied instead of partying when exams are coming up..........................................

the best part is when the fete reach near round about at vanterpools and the scent of sweage water was strongggg looool. we really got our priorities in lines mehson

and whatever money gained from this will it be used positively to improve the conditions of the country? DOUBT . Will be used for another party or scheme yeaaa

i dont want to hear no politician or persons who supported the youths school being half day with nothing in exchange to keep them occupied complain about the gun crimes and robberies cuz yall promoting it strongly! actions show different yall not serious

    party promotes dressing in

yah best clothes/jewlery to show off (needs money),

    drinking rum - needs money,

    sex,

    drunk fights,

females fighting females over cheating man (i mean if the man like you half naked in public you dont think he would like woman outside of you doing the same thing?? lol clown)

    weed smoking - needs money

songs promoting gunman to be supported and loved by females (thats why you got so much young girls/women helping and assisting their criminal boyfriends in crime..........most notably the incident where the old lady lost her life after hearing her granddaughter screaming outside and was shot....the young men return home give their guns to the young girlfriends while laughing.....................thats what yall is promoting!!! for young men/boys to be criminals and for young women/girls to love and support their stupid self destructive lifestyle!.... the next case was the escaped prisoner on the loose had so much women aware of his status but slept with him and supported him in hiding from the police... now hes out again.... a known killer...smh thats why you got grown men giving young kids sex drugs to go into the schools.... thats why you got grown men being predatory to students while working at the schools you trust your child with for 8hrs....

if yall still cant see the bigger and picture and what is going then it will be too late 10 years later when the same youths exposed to nonsense grow up and part take in our community... some will hold sensitive jobs like magistrate, cheif immigration, head of customs, politicians, financial services etc..... can you imagine a woman entangled with criminals, money launders, gunman, killers, hitmen, teachers, etc in those positions? the criminals will run everything and have access to everything thru them gunman loving girlfriends and the gunman them who dont want to work but live fast life will be living them best life while committing crimes like murder, robbery, extorting, human trafficking, money laundering, drug trafficking etc etc etc

Thats why yall had to cry out at this year festival when it had so much minors dressed half naked, so much youths smoking, so much youths drinking rum, so much youths cussing out yall adults cuz thats what yall promoted to them, so much youths getting alcohol poisoning

You better be concerned about when Christ coming back than feting and ratchetness.

This kind of behaviour won’t be in Heaven.

Half a million spent putting a hole in the country’s finances.

Set of blind mice being led by the devil and each other for the sake of partying.

Those who call it complaining lacks basic common sense!!!

Some will be for or against this event. Yes it brought money to Tortola, but only for the government head tax, the people at the Pier Park and the people that was set up behind the admin complex. Many other buisnesses stayed open around road town waiting to capitalize on this crowd but because of its movement, they just follewed the band around and back.yes Bobby's benefited of this a swell. Next time it would be good if the ship can arrive earlier in the morning a let the tourist get to explore more of the bvi so more can benefit and the gather for the tramp in the afternoon.

No money doubt in the territory! They dirty up people business place asking to use the bathroom and didn’t sound a cent. Ask the business owners in town if they felt the economic impact!

Only the proper on the field made money. And here is the best question nobody ain asking Who determine who got to sell on the field? They chose their friends and supporters and everybody didn’t get to apply equally to benefit from this waste of taxpayer money. More cronyism.

All anybody could say is that they had a blast, but none can’t say the lights paid for the dance. 4, hours on land and no money spent or left in the country.

Only a mumu-puff Pokémon would bank on pure delusions of every single person (4000, if everybody came off a ship) spending $15 and hour ($15 AN HOUR YOU KNOW) to still end up with a loss of $350,000-$420,000? (MOLore than $500,000 was spent, ON WHAT!) First of all, divide that 350-450K by 10 then divide it again by 5 to get closer to reality because the vendors takings have nothing to do with the government pocket. The pokemon clowns are set to brokes the country. Get Ash and the rest of the pokemon crew to clean up this clown show ...gotta catch em all buddy!! The only way they making money is if money laundering in involved. All the new activities and ventures popping up that do not make sense, should be closely looked at for potential money washing schemes. Went from throwing parties for 250K a pop, now doubling it to 500K a pop. Just how much laundry need to be done? Next year it will double again to 1million a pop.
