Thomas leads Hannah’s Threat as they win by three! [Photoslide Included]
The last minutes of what had been a hard fought defensive battle suddenly burst into life as MVP Marshal Thomas galvanized his team mates into one last do or die effort that saw them claw back from 6 points down with 3:49 left on the clock.
That became just a 3-point difference as Marshall scored from under the rim.
With 2:39 remaining, SCB Young Talent still held the lead at 39-36, and into the final minute, they kept a 3-point margin. With just 49 seconds left, it became 41-40; Marshall drove forward from deep inside his own half, powered into the paint and under pressure from a SCB Young Talent defender, scored the most important of his 12 points. He also drew a foul much to the derision of the “home” fans and Hannah’s had a 3 point lead with 9 seconds left.
There was still time for Young Talent though. The coach called a time-out to sort out a new tactic and almost immediately they were awarded 2 free throws, but both were missed.
Then at the buzzer, an attempted 3 pointer faded away to leave Hannah’s breathing a sigh of relief and the celebrations began.
Young Talent who had been up at the end of each of the first three quarters had staged a comeback of their own, having found themselves down by 4 at the beginning of the 4th, but ultimately Hannah’s Triple Threat had just enough to see them off.
