This week we feature Young Professional Zariah J. Maduro
At just 17 years of age, Young Professional Zariah J. Maduro is a medical student, entrepreneur and owner of ‘Perfect CreationZ’, a craft business that creates pin-on ribbons for many events such as birthdays, weddings, funerals and anniversaries.
Education & Background
Currently living in Baughers Bay, Ms Maduro attended the Ebenezer Thomas Primary School and graduated as the Valedictorian in 2014.
“I am a recent graduate/member of the Elmore Stoutt High School Class of 2020 where I graduated with high honours and ranked number 10,” she proudly told Virgin Islands News Online (VINO).
Maduro says she is currently a student at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College at a starting point in her pursuit of a medical degree to become an Obstetrics Gynaecologist.
“I am the budding entrepreneur of Perfect CreationZ; however, this will not be the end of my career journey because I want to pursue a medical degree (MD) in Obstetrics Gynaecology (OBGYN),” she said.
Growing as an Entrepreneur
Ms Maduro told VINO her business Perfect CreationZ, which is only making pin-on ribbons for now, has a goal to expand into other creative craft areas.
She said she enjoys the creative aspect of the business the most, along with making customers happy. However, our young professional says the challenges include time management between work and school.
“My biggest life lesson so far is to not allow the words of others define who I am. During my first year of high school, I was bullied and was very focused on what others said about me. I eventually learned how to ignore and realised that what others had to say didn’t matter,” she said.
Turning her attention to inspiration, Ms Maduro said her mom remains the biggest source in her life, “She has been creating pins from before I even knew myself, so growing up watching her making pins almost every day made me grow to love the art and, I eventually learned as I used to help her occasionally.”
Zariah said the business is her main source of income; however as a college student, she is also interning at the Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital as a medical staff worker, assisting an OBGYN doctor daily.
Parting Advice
In advice to young people looking to pursue and achieve their dreams, she said, “In the beginning, there might not seem to be much motivation from others. Don’t let that deter you from achieving your dreams but instead, be your biggest motivator and allow your accomplishments to speak for themselves.”
Our Young Professional also said that while we all may have big dreams, getting to the end of the goal starts with taking small steps.
“The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step,” she said, while encouraging youths looking to pursue a passion to dream big, think big and take steps towards success.
