This Week We Feature Young Professional Michael W. Winter
18-year-old Michael W. Winter is a 2023 graduate of Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) and is already an entrepreneur, owning and operating his own carwash called Mickey's Magic Car Wash and a landscaping company.
Speaking to Virgin Islands News Online (VINO), Michael said he attended the Althea Scatliffe Primary School and then Elmore Stoutt High School where he graduated in 2023. He currently attends H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) as a Business Administration student.
Teen & serial entrepreneur
“I am interested in also becoming successful in the stock market and real estate and my hobbies are swimming, listening to music, fishing, and playing video games," he told Virgin Islands News Online (VINO).
Outside of university, Michael said he works for the government on a bush-cutting contract with his landscaping company and owns and operates a car wash.
Michael said he got into the businesses because both fields are fun ways to make money. ‘I used to work for Mac Daddy at his car wash in Road Town and he was always inspirational talking to us young boys and encouraging us to stay off the streets.”
Michael said as such, he now offers car wash services at another location where persons can wash different types of vehicles, with detailing services to be added soon.
Challenges
He admitted; however, that business was not always bright. “In the beginning it’s slow, but it picks up after a few weeks of consistency and marketing,’ Michael added while revealing that his biggest life lesson has been learning to be patient.
“I have overcome it by going with the flow of life. I like to think that everything happens for a reason," he said.
Michael said he previously worked in sales and will likely be owning a business for the rest of his life. He also has plans to enter the real estate market.
With his sights set on real estate and more business ventures in the future, Michael still wants to be at the top of the food chain when it comes to a car wash business.
Parting advice
In giving advice to young people looking to pursue and achieve their dreams, he warned them not to let anybody turn them away from their aspirations. “If you want to do it, believe me, you can do it!”
In final parting advice, our Young Professional encouraged youths looking to pursue a passion to believe in themselves always since, according to him, there won’t be many people who believe in them in the beginning.
Mikey's Magic car wash is located outside Captain Mulligan's Restaurant and can be contacted on +1 (284) 343-3328.
