Being a legal mind doesn’t mean all books and no fun. When not practicing law, Young Professional and Entrepreneur Ashellica A.L.S.S Fahie channels her enthusiasm and zest for life and fun into building her business called “Buzinga! Fun”

Early Beginnings

28-year-old Ms Fahie is originally from Lambert Estate, East End, which she still calls home. She attended the Willard Wheatley Primary School and graduated in 2006, and also graduated from Elmore Stout High School in 2011.

The former Miss BVI Teen went on to study at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) to earn a degree in General Studies with a concentration in Humanities and graduated in 2013.

"I started my law degree at the University of Manchester, UK in 2014, however, that transition did not work out very well for me. I withdrew in my first semester and came back home. I applied to the University of the West Indies- Cave Hill Campus and started my law degree in 2015. It was one of my best decisions to date,” Ms Fahie shared.

“I regret absolutely nothing about my legal education journey," Ashellica remarked. She has every right not to, as her chosen path has brought her success. She has since obtained a Graduate Diploma in Law and also her Barrister Practice Training Certificate (BPTC) and LLM from BPP Law School in Leeds, UK.

Additionally, Ashellica has qualifications as an International Civil and Commercial Mediator from ADR-ODR International.

Legal Manager & Business Owner

Ashellica currently works at Dentons (BVI) Corp as a Legal Manager; however, she also has a local business called Buzinga! Fun and Games.

She said Buzinga! Fun and Games is an entertainment hosting services and game rental company providing board and jumbo/giant games for all kinds of events.

Career inspiration

As it relates to her legal career, Ashellica said from the tender age of 5 or 6 years old, watching legal tv shows like Law and Order, along with the fact that she enjoyed problem-solving and finding solutions to assist others, inspired her to pursue a career in the legal field.

“Buzinga! Fun and Games came about when I was away at college. My family has always been big on family time and so I always had a knack for bringing people together and having a good time. Thus, the foundation/idea to which Buzinga! Fun and Games is built, is family fun times,” she added.

Ashellica said being a naturally goal-oriented individual has kept her inspired in life, “However, my faith and hope in God, the goals that I’ve set for myself in whatever season I am in, and remembering my 'Why' keeps me focused. I constantly remind myself of these things and reposition myself accordingly. I also have a strong support system that helps to hold me accountable for said goals and dreams I have set for myself,” she added.

Hobbies & life

One of Ashellica's biggest life lessons has been understanding that not everyone has the same heart or capacity, whether emotionally, mentally, spiritually, or financially.

“From that life lesson, I’ve learned to remain in a state of gratitude and understanding. I’ve also learned that it is important to set boundaries and stand on them,” she added.

As part of a long list of hobbies, Ashellica enjoys reading self-help books, novels, and educational and inspirational books as well as going to the beach, and watching sunsets.

This ambitious and proud Virgin Islander said she would love to see herself one day becoming a "Partner" at a law firm.

As it relates to Buzinga! Fun and Games, Asshelica said she would love to see the business grow beyond the rentals and become an Entertainment Giant/Guru for all events and age groups.

Parting advice

Leaving some parting advice, Ashellica said, “Put your goals and dreams in the hands of God, believe that He will always make a way for you if you align yourself to His will and instructions. Surround yourself with people who believe in you, but most of all believe in yourself.

“Believe that you can achieve anything you put your mind to. Do not be discouraged by the naysayers and obstacles. And always remember your WHY. Why you are doing what you are doing,” Ashellica encouraged.
