‘This thing look set up to me’ – Elvis ‘Rush’ Demming
“I think I will have to appeal that because I don’t know…this thing look like is something that set up thing. To me the lawyer, the judge and everybody deh put this thing together,” said Mr Demming.
23 year old Virgin Gorda Resident Jevon Demming was found guilty in a divided decision of 8-1 for the attempted murder of Mr Neil St Rose while his cousin Sherman Williams also known as 'Bones' was unanimously found guilty for the same offense. Williams was also unanimously found guilty for unlawful possession of a firearm.
Mr ‘Rush’ Demming as he asked to be referred, made it very clear that he was not isolating his son from being involved in the incident of September 30, 2012 but is convinced that his son was not the shooter, nor did he do any action that amounts to him being found guilty of attempted murder.
“I am not saying that he right with he involvement but the charges what they have, what I am saying the charges they have on him not right. The guy who get shoot say well who do it and another evidence say what a next guy did…. I don’t see why deh other person get the same charge,” protested Mr Demming.
“If they have evidence to say the next guy had the gun, I don’t see it, I can’t figure it out right now, I don’t know why they could hold the next person for attempted murder,” said Mr Demming.
“If they have evidence to say they see you with the gun, you pull the gun, they see you shoot bam bam, I don’t see why the next person got to be involved, got to be charged for the same thing that’s what I am saying I don’t see the reason for that,” he said.
With the verdict being fresh and to a greater extent shocking to Mr Demming he said that he would be considering appealing the case of his son Jevon as he cannot come to grips with the jury’s decision because he alleged that no one pointed out in evidence during the trial that Demming had, held, touched or shot a gun during the incident.
This shooting took place on the frontage of the Rock Café at Virgin Gorda and the victim Mr Neil St Rose and another witness gave detailed evidence throughout all the trials that it was Sherman Williams who intervened in an incident and shot at Mr St Rose on September 30, 2012.
Asked if he felt that justice was served Mr Demming said that in the case of his son Jevon Demming, “No, No, I don’t think so.”
He said that following the verdict late yesterday afternoon October 22, 2014 his son was very remorseful and apologized to him for causing him the unnecessary stress, embarrassment and trouble. He said that his son was born in the Virgin Islands and spent all of his life on the sister island of Virgin Gorda. He said that as the father he had an open relationship with his son who was an excellent athlete and said that he always encouraged Jevon Demming to relate anything to him candidly and without fear which he said was the case while in the home.
“Anything he use to come to me but I could speak for when he in but when he out there I can’t really say,” said the father.
Speaking of his son being guided by him to follow a positive path in life got caught up, “See them youths of today get caught up so quick, we say he get caught up, we say he get caught up in this kind of system deh.”
He admitted that youths of today are guilty of not listening to their parents and the learned heads of society. “Them youths of today don’t listen, I feel like young people going to make mistake and to me is a guy who I will talk to and he will listen. I wouldn’t know what he will do outside when I am not around but around me he always come to me and ask me a couple of questions. He will help me do what I got to do and thing like that.”
“I could see he feel it bad too but some time…. He sad, he sad, he sad because sometime he say to me daddy I put you through a little thing but sorry. I tell him already, any little thing talk to me before he get himself into any trouble talk to me,” said the father.
He said his son Jevon does plumbing and electrician work. “I proud of him man I tell you the truth,” he said.
Mr ‘Rush’ Demming said that he feels extremely hurt about the whole incident and is saddened by the fact that his son got involved with the law. “His mother not here and is me grow he up mostly, everything is he and me and this thing now when it happen, these youths, these youths,” said Mr Demming.
He said that he is not prepared to give up on his son but will continue to be a father to him. Both Jevon Demming and Sherman will face sentencing on November 21, 2014.

Prosecution has to prove this beyond a reasonable doubt, with the evidence that they had there is now way that this could have been proven. Demming just simple punch the dude and that's it! If punching some one is a crime that is equates to attempted murder then I the police need to come take me to prison now. matter a fact they need to take a lot a good much of the whole population in the VI to prison right now.
This is a bogus charge on demming real talk!
