Third District being penalised by Govt – Hon. Fraser
One such District that is reportedly feeling the effects of such a behaviour is the Third District and its Representative Honourable Julian Fraser, RA said the facts to support this are very glaring as a number of projects that would serve to make life better for residents there have been seeing the back of the National Democratic Party’s (NDP) head.
At his public meeting with his constituents on May 30, 2013, Hon. Fraser said that prior to the general elections of 2011 the District enjoyed growth at a level that was on par with the rest of the Territory but things have drastically changed for the worse.
“It is evident that the rhetoric of wasteful spending that was directed towards this District during the election Campaign of 2011 has turned into a spell of penalisation, for even crucial projects like a replacement retaining wall to protect a family’s dwelling from falling into the road has been placed on hold, despite a contractor having a signed contract in hand,” said Hon. Fraser.
He pointed to a number of issues to support his argument, some of which included the junction at Porter Ghut and Cherry Ghut, Sage Mountain Road and the Sea Cows Bay Harbour Project, which have all been sidelined.
The junction at Porter Ghut and Cherry Ghut was much in discussion during the election campaign of 2011, Hon. Fraser said in explaining the situation. “As my opponent rightly described the condition as disgraceful. Notwithstanding the fact that during that very period there was a contractor with a contract in hand which he holds to this very day, waiting for government to give him the green light to proceed.” he added.
He further stated that it took the incumbent Government until December 2012, to release contractors with signed contracts to surface the roads in the newly established residential community of Co-Co-Della which is still incomplete.
Touching on the Sage Mountain Road widening, which he said gained much attention during the VIP Administration, Hon. Fraser said the project has been at a standstill all year, despite a contractor having a signed contract in hand to complete a project which included property restoration and protection. He also said that the Sea Cows Bay Harbour Project has a number of contractors with signed contracts but no word as to their faith since being told to go on hold.
“The Nibbs Estate Sub-Division, which has a number of enthusiastic young awardees of land raring to build their first home, seems to have lost direction. I have been approached by many of the individuals with the thought that Government can make a meaningful investment in their future by guaranteeing the financing of their home as they work to pay it back. These people are not looking for anything for free; they just need a hand up. And why not, these people are the future of everything in this Territory,” Hon. Fraser said.
The Third District Representative feels that is an area where government can shine in more ways than one. “First they would be helping the young people with that critical first start in life, which is the primary objective. And second, it couldn’t happen at a more opportune time, given the poor state of our economy, to inject some much needed capital and create jobs.”
According to Hon. Fraser, the Caribbean Development Bank Loan Funds provides for a substantial amount of work to be carried out in the District, specifically in terms of drainage in the vicinity of Hannah’s Estate, more specifically in Palestina; in Pockwood Pond regarding the ghuts and the issue of getting water across the road and into the sea; and some work in Cox Heat.
“As you will recall, this money was negotiated by the VIP Government with the Caribbean Development Bank for a specific set of projects throughout the Territory, including Virgin Gorda and Jost Van Dyke. It is important to note also, that the Hon. Premier who was at the time Leader of the Opposition opposed the borrowing of this money and voted against it in the House of Assembly.”
Several persons supported the issues highlighted and have appealed to the government to be fair in its dealings and do what is required in the best interest of all the people of the Territory.

You saying he didnt have public meetings, did you go to any to know whether he had or not? Your foolish assesment of Fraser's motives is not only driven by hate, but also loaded with bitterness. One thing I can promise you is that if you dont get over it it will distroy you because we in the 3rd going to have Fraser around for a long... long..... long time.
(March 23rd) " the project which has attracted some criticisms has raised questions about Government's involvement, landfilling, without the proper permits and the overall impact on the environment".
There are many published reports from various sources questioning what went on in SCB. Read for yourselves. It is not hate and bitterness but holding an official accountable. But you go ahead. Follow blindly.
Not a man studying c..... frazo.
