DUFF’S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI- Senior Legislator in the Virgin Islands House of Assembly (HoA) Hon Julian Fraser RA (R3) has complained that he is not being made preview to plans at the Pockwood Pond incinerator, an area he says falls within his district.

Speaking during the Continuation of the 3rd Sitting of the 4th Session of the 4th House of Assembly on June 7, 2022, the legislator described the site as a place for open dumping and burning since the incinerator has been down over the past few months.

“I'm hearing from the Minister, it has been down since February. The incinerator in and of itself, because it never had a scrubber, is a health hazard. Take away the incinerator and stop burning the garbage outdoors, that's even worse over hazard,” he added.

They're 'carving out hillside' - Hon Fraser

“But it doesn't end there, Madam Speaker, because what they're doing is they're carving out the hillside, carving it out...and covering the burning objects or whatever it is they burn up there,” he said.

Hon Fraser complained that worst yet, all of it is happening in his district, and he is not being made preview to plans for the incinerator

“I know nothing about it. I know they are burning garbage... But there's a huge operation, Madam Speaker.”

He added “If you're coming into my constituency to do all of this,  I need to know, Madam Speaker, it is only parliamentary decency, parliamentary procedure. I'm not asking for anything more, that’s all I’m asking for.”

This dinosaur is too lazy to drive down to Pockwood Pond and find out from the people there what is happening? People of the 3rd deserve better representation, someone motivated to represent everyone and every business in the district. The days of buying votes are over with district representatives no longer having discretionary funds; they want to buy votes it is with their own money, not ours!!

You obviously have a personal beef with the representative, he is trying to get information from the leaders, why is that your problem?

Happy that the district rep is asking questions. I'm hoping however that this matter is not reduced simply to a "my district" affair. Instead, I'm begging the rep to join with the other members in seeking more workable solutions beneficial to the entire country. How are other countries handling such matters? Could heat/steam/smoke generated from burning be converted into a usable power supply? Please, lets talk about it.

Over 20 years ago it was suggested to the then Government that the incinerator could generate power & tap into the electricity system...... so not a new idea! But who knows, now that the UK has their eye on us perhaps it may happen now!!!!
