‘There is no East End without Long Look’ vice versa- Hon Penn
“We all face the same common problems, the same common struggles and yearn for the same basic fulfillment in life. As the world changes and we experience new challenges, so do our communities,” Hon Penn said in an opening statement of his District 8 Neighborhood community newsletter published in December 2021.
“Today, we are no longer a homogenous community, but a multicultural community. So how do we exist together? We must change our attitudes and set policies that create justice for all,” he added,
As part of the newsletter launch, Hon Penn said it is his sincere hope that the initiative will in some way support the community to rise to a nobler level, “where we are not our own barriers to the progress of our communities; it is common knowledge, that there is no East End without Long Look, and there is no Long Look without East End,” he added.
EE & Long Look communities 'intertwined' - Hon Penn
“Our history is intertwined with blood, sweat and tears, as we struggle alongside each other to create and maintain a standard of life and livelihood for our present and future generations.”
Hon Penn also encouraged members of both communities regardless of political affiliations, cultural heritage, and nationality, to be a part of his newsletter group.
“Be a part of this platform to bring awareness to some of our root problems, analyse the issues and offer solutions, as well as feature any content that fulfils the purpose of our Community Newsletter.“
He also called on community members to pattern their lives after Jesus and added that the values of Christ were exemplified in his life, teachings in which he demonstrated truth, respect, integrity, humility, courage and service for all mankind.
“We too can pattern our lives after him with the same standards to make our communities and ultimately our territory a better place for people of all ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds,” the Opposition Leader said.

Those are fine sentiments Hon. Penn. Needless to say every one of our beloved Virgin Islands House of Assembly members would purport to agree with that.
The reality is something very different. The introduction of that shameful tax on the little men who use Western Union in 2020 being a prime example. In balance to you Hon. Penn, you said at the time: “Mr. Speaker, I put it to you that between $1.1 and $1.6 billion leaves this country on an annual basis through the banking system, the trust industry and various means (and) we are here going after working class persons who most of them make $7 an hour....We have to find another way.” Credit where credit is due Hon. Penn. I hope you get into government next time.
And don't get me started on the way the government denies all rights to babies born here to migrants.... I hope you and your government turn a page on that shameful history.

Same thing I’m thinking while reading the article. I was in class with a few of them and we had many falling outs over this. They were quick to let you know where they from especially if anyone said they all from the East. In my time they hated it since it was alleged that East End had the most crazy people. As for Long Look, you better know the difference between Vanterpool Estate and Nothinghams and you better not include those from Fat Hog’s Bay in that. That a whole other can of worms you open. I meant they would argue for days about this. I remember once it almost came to blows. What funny about all this to me, is when the announce the college will be build in Paraquita Bay. For some mind boggling reason that area can be consider in the East but the areas after that but before the actual East End cannot be East.
