There is need for a ‘solid 3rd political party’- Radio Caller

The caller remarked that the state of affairs of the VIP is “very disappointing” in relation to the fight over the Leader of Opposition seat between the incumbent Hon Julian Fraser (R3) and newcomer and Chairman of the VIP Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1).
VIP cannot get itself together
“It is very disappointing …the VIP is a party that has been around for a number of years. They are now in the Opposition, because we do need an Opposition. Now we do need an effective Opposition, and it is sad, it is sad to see what is going on in the party concerning the Hon Fraser and the others of the party,” he said.
According to him persons feel there is a need for a third party because the VIP cannot get itself together and it seems like there isn’t a second party. “So we need to get a third party in the event that the VIP can’t get its act together, at least we will have another party. We cannot have just the National Democratic Party (NDP) running the country and no Opposition. We need a solid party, we need a party that is together and ready to run this thing.”
Time has come to step aside
He said in the last election, persons said they would not vote for the VIP if Hon Fraser was the leader, and it is time for him to step aside and that is in the best interest of the party and the people.
“…This is not about self, this is the thing as human beings we have to recognise that when the time comes for us to step aside we have to man up and then call it and do what we need to do. I would humbly say to Mr Fraser, work with the party my brother, you may not be up here where you used to be but work with the party. That is the way it is in life sometimes,” he added.
He also said he is not sure having Hon Fahie as the Opposition Leader will make a difference but that is what the people are calling for.
“But for sure you cannot go back down that same road because if you go back down there you will lose before you start,” he warned.
A divided party cannot stand
Meanwhile, host of the programme, Doug Wheatley wished the party well, saying that sometimes people forget that the reasons they are politicians is because of the people who vote for them and put them in these positions and it must be realised that the people can have them removed.
“So, therefore, there has to be unity and as soon as you can get unity in the party I think it would be better for everyone.”
In a press release on January 31, 2017, a day after Hon Fraser blasted the VIP for allegedly deceitfully ousting him as Chairman, VIP President Dr Natalio ‘Sowande Uhuru’ Wheatley said the party is committed to the process of mediation between the Chairman and Hon Fraser with the aim of resolving the impasse between the two members.
A meeting of the Congress is planned in that regard.

No doubt the behavior and performance of both major political parties may have flinged the door wide open for the bursting on the scene of a serious, national interest focused, 99% friendly, humbled...........etc political party. A self interest, elitist, opportunistic, and purely traditionalist party need not apply. Any new party must be willing sacrifice for the national interest, not self interest. It must be transparent, responsible, accountable and be good steward of taxpayers resources. It must have what it takes to put the country on a solid course well into the 21st Century. The iconic HL Stoutt and the VIP started the race well but its successors have bobbled the baton. Virgin Islanders, the nation is calling and needs your national service.
