ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Governor Daniel Pruce has said a multifaceted approach is needed to combat gun violence in the Territory.

Speaking during a press conference on August 26, 2025, the Governor said, “Gun crime is a good illustration of where a number of interventions can help reduce the prevalence of guns and their use and possession in the Territory.”

An Anti-Crime Summit is being organised by the National Security Council (NSC) to find solutions to the increase in crime in the Virgin Islands (VI).

Governor Pruce, said without prejudging where discussions during the summit scheduled for September 24 to 26, 2025, will end up, there are some “component parts” that could be part of the solution to gun related offenses.

These include strengthening legislation and penalties; looking at adjustments to policing, police training, police methods; and considering how the guns are getting into the Territory with as import control and border management.

There is a space for all

According to Governor Pruce, government can play its part in combatting gun crimes however there is a space for everyone.

“It’s not just a space for government, it is around societal norms as well.”

These societal norms, he expounded, include people’s attitudes to guns and gun possession. “How that’s viewed, among peers; how that affects people’s levels of confidence and fear in terms of going into situations where they feel there might be a risk,” he added.

Governor Pruce also reiterated that there is an issue but said there is a high level of commitment to addressing it from himself, the NSC, and Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7).

“My expectation is that we will find there are a number of different interventions in different spheres that will contribute to addressing it successfully.”

The top Issue on the table is addressing gun crimes, not other crimes. We know that crimes are ongoing worldwide. But because of the high spiking rate of gun crimes, bear in mind all crimes need to be addressed, but gun crimes have gone out of total control, but could be curb by good planning, good preparation, and better than now is executions.
However much more should be done by the community at large to work in unison to help in lowering crimes in all areas, both legal, and elegal ones.

We should bear in mind that gun doesn't shoot people, but people have used, and continuing using guns wrongly to assist them in meeting their goals.

One of the main reasons why addressing guns issues alone without addressing the core reasons why some people use guns must not be overlooked by any means.

In all developing countries in this world, guns use are on the rise. Because of this known evidencial facts, these gun problems will continue rising, I hope not, if the root cause for rising gun crimes in the world, including the B.V.I are being continuingly been (past), and currently (presently)being deliberately unconfronted both legal, and elegal.
Guns don't hate people, shoot people, terrorize, people injure people, nor do the kill people. People do all of the above with guns, and more. Guns are not our enemy, but rather the misuse of guns.

Has B.V.I LOVE died or was it ever alive?

While you caught up slavery we got 13 youths here with guns and done have a body under his belt. Keep focusing on the wrong things while the next generation of this country is being corrupted from young be out very own here. Don't forget there were guys giving primary and elementary school students sex drugs! We have some sick people in this place. We really need a sex offenders list asap. People influencing youths to sex, drugs, gangs, guns and violence on the down low and sometimes blatantly in y'all faces but you focus on UK and slavery as if the slavery got our youths here in criminal life and grown men riding off school girls

Got man employed in eshs school when you check he social media he full of gold chains and his associates is pure weed heads and criminals then they wonder how weed and drugs getting into the school and getting to students. Then they wonder why it go so much predators in the school. Is criminals or criminals friends y'all got employed at the school cuz you ain do no proper background check!

Forget the UK and save the youths before it's too late
