The “so-called” elites rode on VIP’s back - Penn-O’Neal

FRENCHMAN’S CAY, Tortola, VI – “They got their education on the backs of us, today they are thumbing their noses at us, telling us how educated they are and trying to match us up against their team,” At Large representative Irene Penn-O’Neal lamented at a Virgin Islands Party (VIP) meeting held last evening, October 24, 2011 at Frenchman’s Cay.

According to the At Large Representative, when she listens to “our opponents of whom the VIP educated” it makes her want to refresh their memories of how they were able to be qualified academically.

And to her, speaking about who is academically qualified is just wrong. “Ladies and gentlemen they are out of order, because not everyone could be academically inclined. The VIP provided a programme to assist those who were not academically inclined. We have to show those good gentlemen, educated gentlemen - the elites - to know that it was us, the taxpayers that put them through the education system.”

“So they owe us a sense of gratitude, and we want them to know that we are very humble people. That is why the VIP is the party for the people, and of the people,” Hon. Penn-O’Neal added. “We are ordinary people who try to do extraordinary things for you the people.”

The popular politician also pointed out that her party is very “down to earth” which pales in comparison to the ‘other side.”

“We are not too big that we can’t sit with you. We sit on the corners; we sit at your homes. We sit everywhere with you. We are not too scared to meet you at any level, but try the other side they will be so uncomfortable, they will be uneasy. They will keep looking around because they don’t want to be there for too long,” disclosed the At Large representative.

Against this backdrop, Penn-O’Neal told supporters that while they may come and asked for their votes now, “Will they remember you when elected?”

What does being on a cheap or expensive cruise have to do with the FACTS. The VIP have not been to anybody houses, and thats that. We have not even seen the The Jug Head. Somebody says he said he do not have to go House to House because he sure of the votes. SICK. Also too 'Outstanding" maybe you should go on a cheap cruise and take your cronies with you.

Thats the way to go. The elites are too big to even come to (the ordinary people's house) to talk with them. When the NDP was in, a man stop Ronnie Skelton to speak with him, asked him to pull on the side as traffic was flowing and Ronnie Screwed up his vehicle window and speed off leaving the man with his mouth opened and horrified. Is this the same Govt that we want back in???? NDP IS ONLY FOR THE ELITES AND THE HAVES.

Are you for real? Some BVIlanders act so stupid they often make me ashamed. I don't really know Ronnie , but if this man had tried to have me pull over in traffic I would have sped off also. If you really need to see someone for God's sake call them and make an appointment like you have some sense. Stopping people and asking them to pull over in traffic is just plain stupid, how you know where people have to go. People generally in traffic because they trying to get somewhere not trying to have an hour long conversation.

Irene, the VIP or NDP did not educate anyone, it is the PEOPLE of the BVI who paid for their education through their hard earned TAX dollars, you need to retract this stupid statement.

I could not have said this better myself. NO member of any party took money from their own bank accounts to pay for anybody education. It was paid for by the taxpayers of the Virgin Islands, of which we are ALL a part. I just don't understand why as a society we try to belittle people for working hard and trying to be real professionals and progressing financially and professionally. More so than any party it is the supporting of this attitude that is doing more harm to my country, because it only seeks to divide us rather than bring us together as one people.

that is so true. If you are educated you are an "elite"???? She definitely mis-spoke. Aren't they the ones touting education moving from good t great? And what is wrong with being successful in your own country? Crab in a barrel mentality killing us. What message are you sending to all the kids that graduate from college? Are they elite's too? Give me a break man.

What is wrong with Irene ? I can now see why some people have changed their minds about giving her the one vote they were giving and NDP the other three at-large. She beginning to sound a lot like the VIP gang..Listen Irene, allu were put there to do a job. Why should we be greatful? It's you job as an elected official to take care of this country and the people in it. You all failed miserably and we must be greatful? We cant even pay our house loans, electricity etc cause no money is generating through the land because of your government lack of vision.

@Hello the government is NOT responsible for people not being able to pay their mortgages and other bills. Some of you like to live beyond your means. Yall want to be building these massive houses and riding around in these fancy cars, and can't afford to pay back the bank for them, doing hair and nails every week, have to buy the latest phone and buy every clothing that is in fashion!!! How the hell is that the government fault?!?!?!?!?!

Thanks Irene and VIP, keep the idiotic statements rolling in and make it even easier for NDP to win!! Thanks A LOT!!!! WOW, I wonder if she really believes what she just said? So because VIP of Lavity's days, who Ronnie, Doctor Smith and others in the NDP supported, assisted with scholarships and otherwise, they should automatically support the VIP of today with this set of inept people, Irene included? WHAT THE HELLLLLLL?? WE don't owe you anything BOSSSS!!!!!

Irene ater reading your statement my mind is made up NOT to vote for you. VIP did not give anyone any education. Its the hard earn tax dollars from all of our foreparents. Shame on you! I am surprise to hear you in these mud-slinging tactics.

I am ashamed of you Irene. It is THE GOVERNMENT'S RESPSONSIBILITY to EDUCATE its population. I am sure that during the NDP's tenure they too gave out scholarships. I am sure some of those educated by the NDP will vote for the VIP aqnd visa versa. So you are trying to say if the VIP educates you you must agree with everything you say? That is why we educate our people so that they can progress

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Education = Elite? So we should be DUMB AND PROUD??? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!! WOWWWWW!!!!!!!!!! Well let me take my smart black ass and give the 'elite' team NDP all my 5 votes!!! All smart people join me please, let's show them that education is something to be PROUD OF, not FROWNED UPON!!!! WOW!!! Irene? You smoking that stuff Fraser and Ralph puffing man, good lord hammercy!! LMAO!!! In a way I'm glad for some people! Now, when you see them coming with their last minute promises, tell them SHOVE IT because they will throw it in your face afterwards! They brag about how many students they helped with grants and scholarships and when the young people travel, go away to school, experience new things and can now think for themselves, they're upset because they've blown their cover. The VIP of the last 16yrs have thrived on IGNORANCE and miseducation to get across, NO MORE!!!

Irene, you got to be kidding me right? You live at Pock Wood Pond. How many houses in Pock Wood Pond have you visited? Get away with those damn bold face lies! You are letting those fools on your team rub off on you! In speaking to many voters, you stood out! People said as much as they were fed up with VIP, Irene will get one of their at-large votes. I had you to be a winner in this election, but if you keep up with this nonsense that won't be the case. VIP didn't send anybody to school, the Virgin Islands Government did! Are you telling me that all scholarship recipients had better vote VIP all the way just because they got a government scholarship to go to school? When Government educate our people none of them should run for office because that's disrespectful? What the hell are you saying Irene? One time you are proud of our students for their achievements, but when they reach a stage where they seek to represent their own people and lift them out of the ditch we're in, now they're ungrateful? Irene, in these tough times we do need educated people to manage our affairs. Not everybody with a degree is smart, but there are many smart people with degrees! One only have to look at many of the projects undertaken by this administration to know that common sense alone is lacking, much less academic qualifications! Omar brags about his 30+ years of service, but he thinks it's smart to put some baby pipes under the ground with concrete, to take water from one of the biggest IF NOT the biggest ghut in the entire BVI and he sees nothing wrong with that! You sent our young men and women to college here and abroad to study engineering and other fields and yet you walk all over them with your arrogance doing nonsense!! You as an at-large rep sat back and let foolish people destroy this country! Biwater, Marina, stop lights, purcell ghut phase 1, 2 now 3, sewerage still running, garbage burning open making people sick and it's right across from your house! roads are bad but we pave an already good road while others suffer, our beaches look like shit, cruise pier look like shit, no plan to get tourism back on track, no plan to get our construction workers back on the job and making a living, no plan to tackle high food and other prices, cable is shit, phone is shit, internet is shit but we have the 'Liberator', light bill killing us but power always out. You people have let me down big time! In 2007 it took me about 20secs to vote! I voted for the torch all the way, hands down! Not this trip, the family is getting my vote. And to those quick to act as though nobody should oppose the big bad VIP or else they must be an NDP paid blogger or some nonsense. I'm no political hack, I'm no paid blogger. I'm a concerned citizen who cares about my country and right now VIP doesn't have a crutch to stand on!!

I can't believe she is saying this foolishness from her mouth. It is the same (TAX PAYERS) money that have her younger son in school right now. She and her husband make way more money together than the average husband and wife and they could have afford to pay for their son tution out of their pockets but nooooooooooooooooo they want to save all their money and spend the (TAX PAYERS) money. An unfortunate person could have gotten that same money to further their education. THIS WORLD AND PLACE WOULD NEVER GET BETTER!!!! THE RICH STAY RICH AND THE POOR STAY POORER WITH DREAMS!!!!!

By the way it is the government duty to educate its own people. You call that HUMAN CAPITAL!!!!! One requirement they should make in order for someone to be elected or run for election is that they need to have a degree in Economics and Financial Management. Those are to two major pillars you should have in your portfolio. It is obvious that some of them have no common sense and chat pure nonsense that comes to their brain.

Mrs. Penn-O'Neal I am embarrassed for you and ashamed that you would stoop to these stupid tactics. Instead of helping to steer the party in a different direction you decide to join the nonsense approach. I cannot believe you are doing this. Personal integrity will be valuable to you long after this election you'd be wise to remember that.
