ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The successful staging of Christmas in the City over the past two days has seen patrons and vendors calling for the location used this year to be a permanent one.

The annual event has and continues to be the territory's signature event on Tortola that officially ushers in the festive season.

It started out and spent many years along Main Street. It was then shifted to DeCastro Street; however, when the traffic turnaround was effected in 2020, organisers were forced to once again shift to another location, the frontage of the Central Administration Complex.

That latter location saw many complaining of being adversly affected by dust and the rough surface of the ground.

This year, according to City Manager Ms Janice Braithwaite Edwards, Shore Drive was chosen as the Central Administrative frontage is inaccessible due to reconstruction works there.

It's all about the location

During a tour of the activities on Friday evening several patrons and vendors expressed great satisfaction and comfort at the location, "This is it, this is it, they have found the perfect location for this event," commented one patron.

A food vendor, who chose only to be named as Mrs Rymer, said, "As you can see, the traffic is not affected in any big way, this small road is closed, yes, but the main road has traffic flowing smoothly and that is why the need to let this be the permanent location for Christmas in the City."

Mr Karl S. Brown commented, "Three things, 1. They shouldn't move from here, 2. They should do some of the entertainment further down the line where some of us are located to bring people to us and finally this should be a three-day event Friday, Saturday and Sunday."

That location is bad for the smell of raw sewage though isn’t it? The treatment plant nearby is always leaking.

We noticed that too as we walked to the event. However, the location seemed to work very well otherwise!

Maybe you have ONE OF THE COVID SYMPTOMS THAT IS AFFECTING YOUR SENSE OF SMELL.

Location seems okay but it doesn't have to be a three-day event. There's those of us that live in the capital and we would appreciate a low level if noise, especially prior to the return of the work week.

It's an excellent venue. I also suggest it be a 3 day event. Charging vendors $350.00 for a booth for 2 days only is hard in these times. Most booths have small $10.00 stuff, maybe the food vendors make more money?

Anyway kudos to Ms. Janice Braithwaite-Edward's and her team for an excellent and safe event.

What?????? You gotta be kidding!!! No way
$350.00 for what?? Come on, it’s ringing in the season
Everything is not about greed. Pleaseeee give the
    Vendor a break.
If they decided not to support then what
    This is ridiculous and unfair.

Definitely toooo much money. NOT FOR FREE BUT A lil $150 could work. Wonder what they put these accumulated funds to?
