BIRAS CREEK, Virgin Gorda, VI- The redevelopment of Biras Marina & Resort, formerly known as Biras Creek Resort, aligns with the government’s goal of making the Virgin Islands the number one destination to visit in the world.

This was stated by the Premier of the Virgin Islands, Dr. the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7), during the official opening ceremony on Friday, January 2nd, 2026, of The Mangrove—a new waterfront restaurant within the newly redeveloped Biras Creek Marina.

He remarked, "We are all on the same page, and we are partners in that endeavour, to make the VI number one.’’

The marina and resort, located in North Sound, Virgin Gorda, began operations as Biras Marina & Resort in 2024, following years of planning and restoration after the two devastating back-to-back hurricanes, Irma and Maria.

New restaurant complements the community

Dr Wheatley noted that this restaurant perfectly complements the North Sound community and significantly enhances the value of the Virgin Islands’ marine products.

The Biras Marina & Resort began its phased opening with the debut of Ikigai, a Japanese-Caribbean restaurant.

The Premier emphasised that this new development adds value not only to the Virgin Islands’ marine products but also to the boating community.

He praised the owners of Biras Marina & Resort for enhancing facilities to better serve this community. "You've done a wonderful, marvellous job, as well as adding facilities. That this marina right here can accommodate mega yachts, and this is exactly what is gonna help the VI to become the number one place to visit in the world."

The Mangrove is perched on the calm water's edge and opened to rave reviews for its ambience, beautiful architecture and delicious food.

Biras Creek preserves the environment

Hon. Wheatley expressed his appreciation for the preservation of the environment, stating, "I’m impressed with the way that Patrick [and] Guillermo [along with] the family, have preserved the environment and now that's a part of your vision, because you've been blessed with this, and we must be good stewards of our environment, and invite other persons to come to enjoy, and to respect what we have for them."

He concluded by saying, "I have no doubt that we are going to be celebrating another 30 years of this development here at Biras Creek."

This is not one mart. If the locals gave effort in presenting themselves and having an actual résumé, maybe just maybe the positions would not have been outsourced
