BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI – The host of the Umoja radio programme, Cromwell Smith, also known as 'Edju En Ka', has urged Virgin Islanders to take a stand and call out Governor Daniel Pruce for his inability to effectively manage the public service.

During the Umoja programme on ZBVI 780 AM on March 5, 2026, Smith addressed concerns regarding global conflicts and their impact on local governance.

Public service not responding quick enough

He expressed that there have been ongoing issues with the public service not responding quickly enough to the government's plans and initiatives. Since the governor is responsible for the public service, Smith suggests that he is not managing it adequately.

"I’ve been hearing that the public service is not responding to the government quick enough, and I know that the governor, who is a United Kingdom citizen, is not managing the civil service in a way that it needs to be managed."

Impending global challenges

Smith further emphasised that the governor is failing to oversee the service in a manner that would help the country navigate the impending global challenges.

"He's not managed in a way that it needs to be managed in order for it to produce at the speed and the rate that we needed to produce in order for us to survive these impending challenges that we see developing globally.

"I think that we need to call out the governor to make sure that we take control of the civil service," he exclaimed.

Smith concluded by reiterating the urgent need for Virgin Islanders to push the governor to fulfill his responsibilities and manage the public service more effectively.

"We need to call out the governor, to impress upon him the need for him to manage the service more efficiently, so that our needs and our survival are secure here in the Virgin Islands."

The mandate of overseeing the civil service falls upon the Deputy Governor. I guess some people speak to further meritless agendas

@ Think, you hear dis ya. The Governor may have DELEGATED the managing of the Public Service to the Deputy Governor but the Governor has ultimate responsibility. Responsibility cannot be delegated away. People can held accountable for their performance. The responsibility for the public service should fall under the purview of the local government as part of the BVI march towards greater self-termination. It is not a coincidence; it is deliberate why the Governor has control over the public sector,,RVIPF, Jail, judiciary,etc.. Why you think the Governor wants to regain control over finance? It is about control, ie, people, law enforcement,….etc. what is missing is finance. Virgin Islanders better awake from their deep slumber and stop the self-hatred, self- discrimination, etc..While we are tearing each other down, the colonialists is planning and capitalizing on our division with strong dosage of fear, envy, distrust. This is straightout of Willie Lynch playbook. Everywhere the colonialists conquered and colonized, they employ division, distrust, fear, envy, etc. to their advantage and to the disadvantage of locals. They divide and then pick a side to support who is then beholden to it, rewarding with meritorious manumission, appeasement. In the mean time, while we self-hate and put the colonialists on a pedestal, they exploit human capital, natural resources. Common on folks get it together, unite, etc.
