‘The 9th district was not lacking powerful representation’ – Dr Hubert O’Neal

He also told the large crowd gathered at Lee Road in Virgin Gorda during his campaign launch last evening, May 13, 2015 that the challenges the district continues to face did not happen with the National Democratic Party.
Referred to by Minister for Health and Social Development Honourable Ronnie W. Skelton as the gentle giant, Dr O’Neal said he has been constantly representing the interest of the district under the current and other previous administrations and that, according to him, included the expansion of the Nurse Iris O’Neal Health Centre since 1999.
“The airport was improved and re-opened and now there is daily regular flights scheduled into and out of that airport. The construction of the state of the art Iris O’Neal, Nurse Iris O’Neal medical facility that I have been campaigning for since 1999 has begun, all of you have seen that,” he said to the crowd.
Other things he alluded to as having been advocated for by him were a proper ambulance service, the new Jeffery Caines Basketball Court, the Walters Recreational Park, issuing of land titles and the soon construction of the main Lee Road.
“These are the actions I have been campaigning for, for many years…. My people of Virgin Gorda and Anegada, these are not elections gimmicks.”
Actions speak louder than words
Dr O’Neal alluded to the many others who for the first time are now seeking to take up the seat in the House of Assembly as the Ninth District representative with the retirement of Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal OBE who has served the territory and the very district over the past 40 years.
“Many candidates are coming to you now making many promises, some are even members of a party that has been in power for much longer that the NDP, now suddenly they are going to turn your nights into day, they are going to take your sufferings away, they are going to roll your dark clouds away but when it comes to doing and showing it’s going to take some noise. Remind them that actions speak louder than words,” said Dr O’Neal.
He also said the other candidates are now coming with their promises to fix all the challenges that the people are experiencing. He, however, said the challenges are not new. “They did not occur during the National Democratic Administration. Where were they?” he asked rhetorically. “Where were they seeking to serve? I have been advocating on your behalf time and time again. Actions speak louder than words.”
5 the magic number?
“I have come a long way. I have come again for the 5th time, that’s got to be the magic number, seeking your support to serve you with good representation,” said Dr O’Neal.
“Most persons would have already given up after two attempts, but not me. My love for my people and my district and my recognition of their unrealised potential keep the passion burning in my spirit.
“If you see a little tear roll down my eyes don’t be surprised because I feel the warmth, I feel welcomed, I feel good here in my district here in Virgin Gorda. I want to thank all the Anegadians for coming across the seas to be with me here tonight,” said an emotional Dr O’Neal.
The Virgin Gordia also took time out to thank Hon O’Neal for his lifelong commitment and his service and accomplishment to the district. “We must pay tribute to whom tribute is due. I am pleased to hear that he would be publishing his memoir. I look forward to reading it because I am certain there will be much to learn from his vast memory and experience,” Dr O’Neal stated.
Along with Dr O’Neal, the persons vying for the Ninth District seat are Mr Elton L. Sprauve of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP), Faye J. Reese-Charles of the People’s Empowerment Party and Independent candidates Dr Rawle R. Hannibal, Mr Albert O. Wheatley and Mrs Stephanie I. Faulkner-Williams.

the place in a mess, get real or get lost.
Poor representation is the cause of that.
It is so sad to see the folks supporting a party that is busy selling out our lands and islands right in front of their faces!!! I am wondering if they are thinking beyond June 8, in that if and a big IF the NDP should go back in power, they would be able to complete their deals with B****n and J*****n where they will be giving away the air port in Beef Island, Prickly Pear Island (a national park) in North Sound, the Gun Creek and Gun Point area, the vast amount of land in the Great Hill, Joe Bay, just to name a few. Yes, you are entitled to vote for who you want, but just know that those guys have great plans on giving away the land to the billionaires by the hundred of acres and complete island, also when they do that we cannot even visit those areas, look at what they have allowed to do with Oil Nut Bay, the locals cannot go up there, only Dr. S & P and a few others in their camp who have homes up there as payment for raping our country. People of the 9th district and elsewhere be wise...
