Set It Off had ousted coach Kennedy H. Bass for Ronald Simmons, aka 'Gola', and the decision was close to paying off; however, Set If Off missed their opportunities from their free throw line and then lost their way in overtime.
“Tell them bring Phil Jackson next time,” Parillon jibed after the game.
Phil D. Jackson is the famous American basketball coach, who led Chicago Bulls to 6 NBA titles and then won five more titles as coach of Los Angeles Lakers.
Ice Connection’s owner William A. Penn aka ‘Ice Willy’ praised Mr Parillon for his coaching and said Ice Connection was going to win VG Summer Jam until he (Mr Penn) retires.
Big game for Amadius Der-Weer
Meanwhile, Amadius Der-Weer was the chief scorer for Ice Connection on Saturday, with a game-high 18 points and a whopping 18 rebounds.
Khalid S. Gerard and Kadeem Jones finished with 16 points each. Zion Jones and Stephon S. Caul had 15 points apiece.
Shakeem Blackmore (16 points) and Shammar George were the main scorers for Set It Off.
Meanwhile, coach Parillin said he had to go stride for stride with Set If Off, including not going to deep in the bench because Set If Off was constantly relying on their strongest players.
He sad this brought about tiredness and fatigue, but he kept telling his players to “hang in there, and let’s gut it out to the end”.
Parillon further said Set It Off is a good team, “but we have chemistry. We have kept this team now for a couple of years and we have a set of guys who normally play together.”
He also said he told his team to trust the coach, as there were some players who didn’t want to be rested and that they reminded him of who he was as a player, never wanting to be subbed off.
