ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- While back to school give-aways usually target the children, teachers too need some love and assistance for all that they do, especially since school supplies and teaching materials are hard to come by via Government.

And thanks to some kind souls who have a deep appreciation for those who have chosen the ‘labour of love’, at least 50 teachers, most of them in the Second District and its environs, were given back to school starter kits at a special teacher’s appreciation event at Paradise Club Roadside Bar and Grill in Cane Garden Bay on Saturday September 3, 2016.

The initiative, dubbed Back to School- Teachers’ Edition, was a collaborative effort among several groups and individuals, including Paradise Club, Tola Race Wars (TRW) and Al Brewley aka DJ Hova.

The first 50 teachers to show up were presented with starter kits that included pens, rulers, markers, folders, stickers, and paper clips among other items.

The teachers that showed up were also treated to free food and they used the occasion to have a little ‘back to school lime’ with their colleagues while being entertained with music by DJ Mac Milli and DJ Hova.

Mr Brewley said he has lots of love for teachers, adding that he has a relative who is a teacher and sees how she often has to go into her own pocket to get materials.

President of TRW, Dr Carl O. Dawson said the group had made a promise not just to go into schools to deliver their road safety messages but to also lend assistance in any other way possible.

“Even in the packages there are some pens, pencils and papers with our TRW logo on them because it was something we were putting together over the months, so when Al, who is a member of TRW, called and said he wanted to do something for the teachers we already had a few stuff to donate towards the cause.”

Dr Dawson further said TRW would continue to assist especially the schools whenever possible. “We love the schools, so anything to do with the schools and education we will lend our support.”
