ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Minister for Education, Culture Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) has announced that a number of teachers have received the $300 promised by Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Andrew A Fahie (R1) in September 2021.

Speaking on JTV News moments ago, November 3, 2021, Dr Wheatley said, "As it pertains to teachers in general, one of the five requests made to me as Minister by the [BVI] Teachers Union had to do with the payment of a three hundred dollar stipend.

"This is a payment actually requested by the Teachers Union. They asked for it for practical reasons and symbolic reasons. Practical reasons mean they take a lot of money out of their pockets to pay for school every year to buy resources and things like that but symbolic to recognise the efforts of our teachers in these very difficult times, where we have a pandemic."

"I am happy to say I distributed the first set of stipend just this morning and I am going to be distributing over the course of the next few days," Dr Wheatley disclosed.

The Education Minister insisted that it's not simply about the money but delivering on a promise, "and about building trust with our hard-working teachers and, again, I apologise to the teachers that it is late in coming but it is now being delivered."

They asked for a stipend to help defray the cost of resources they need for the classroom and they got it. How is that a shame. Lots of you here blogging have children in school and should be assisting the teachers with this expense by maybe contributing a ream of copy paper or something instead of here blogging crap.

They ask for it for practical and symbolic reasons?? Pure gibberish. They DEMANDED it because it was promised to them (with the happy hour) remember? 80% of the population already knew the $300 reimbursement promise was just another photo OP for the minister who had NO INTENTION of keeping that promise in the first place. This is how predictable and laughable the "leaders" in this territory have become. Everything is a lie, sprinkled with gibberish.

Correction: It was initially asked for by the teachers and Hon. Wheatley is keeping his promise. Thanks Hon. Wheatlwy for keeping your promise and look forward for to keep the other promises. We look forward also to a respectable relationship as we strive to improve the education system for our children. At the end we will say our cries were heard. It is not a political move. to support any one's agenda.,

I hope this is 300.00 a week extra if not the teachers need to stay home and go school when they want because all day working and no money to save don't make sense when your teaching so student can get good great to get well paid jobs. For a small island Tortola government needs the teachers pay and the teachers need the politicians pay. Politicians only sit down and have meetings about making people more broke. I been living here for two decades and I don't see no development that's run good to help the people. All money donated is in ponsi schemes so no one get it so why can't the teachers get some and don't tell me they gave it to the people because I don't see nothing different

My pet food and pet treats adds up to more than that a month. What a embarrassment. The Teachers Union is not doing a very good job
    representing the Teachers.

This man has the Potential to be a great Minister but he is letting his leaders keep him back. Teachers need more than a little 300 dollars they need a salary raise. Most of these teachers out here are heroes. As a parent I can't do what they do on a regular. Some of these teachers go beyond the call of duty. Their job does not finish at 4:50 like the rest of us. It is a 365 days and 24 hour shift. I wonder if they sleep. My children go to public school and their teachers rock. We need to give teachers back the respect they deserve. Get rid of the ones whe do not pull their weight ant that goes for principals who do not do what they suppose to do. Teachers are the real MVP. Thank you teachers!

Come on now, I can spend $300.00 in ten minutes. $300.00 is nothing, a million dollars is nothing these days. You can’t even build a house on a million dollar budget.

To the people who saying $300 ain’t enough then why won’t you all add $5.00 and. make it $305??? Some of you’ll would get bless by Jesus and will still complain to God. Last time I check 1$ is better than $0.00. So of you’ll just can’t be satisfied or please - if teachers ain’t complaining about it why should some of you?

Every one of you on here blogging and being so disrespectful is contributing to the downfall of the BVI. You all just hate yoursellves and because of that self hate you cannot love anyone else. A lot of you are jealous of others that is why you are pulling them down but remember by doing that you are pulling down your own selves. I sick of r u.
