TCI hand VI 4th straight CONCACAF Nations League shutout
The League C, Group A result extended the Virgin Islands’ difficult campaign and left the team without a point after three matches. It also marked the fourth straight game in which the Virgin Islands failed to score.
Turks and Caicos Islands took the lead in the 37th minute when Dominic Hutchinson found the net. The goal gave the home side a 1-0 advantage at halftime, but the Virgin Islands remained within striking distance heading into the second half.
The Virgin Islands were unable to produce an equaliser, however, as Turks and Caicos Islands controlled the closing stages of the match. John Robertson doubled the hosts’ advantage in the second minute of stoppage time before Sean Clare converted a penalty in the sixth minute of added time to complete the 3-0 victory.
Winless, Pointless
The defeat left the Virgin Islands at the bottom of Group A with three losses from three matches and a goal difference of minus eight. The team had previously suffered a defeat against Montserrat and remains without a point in the competition.
For Turks and Caicos Islands, the victory provided a significant boost in the group standings, improving the team’s record to one win and one loss. The Virgin Islands will now look to end their scoring drought and produce a stronger response in their remaining Nations League fixtures.
