ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Bomb threats, similar to what was made to Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport on May 5, 2024, were also made to international airports in Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) and Bermuda.

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has said it is collaborating with these jurisdictions to identify the offenders behind these threats.

Anguilla & Cayman Islands also targetted

Our News Centre can also confirm that similar threats were made to airports in Anguilla and Cayman Islands and it appears as though the British Overseas Territories (OTs) have been the target of the persons behind the emails.

The RVIPF in a press release today, May 6, 2024, said it was alerted to a potential bomb threat at Terrance B. International Airport on May 5, after 4:00 PM.

Police accurately conveyed that the threat was communicated via email to Advance Marketing & Professional Services, the parent company of Virgin Islands News Online (VINO), claiming the presence of a bomb on an aircraft and at the Terminal Building.

“In response, RVIPF and Airport Security promptly evacuated the premises, and conducted a thorough search of all areas. After two and a half hours, the all-clear was issued, and normal operations resumed,” the RVIPF stated.

Police said similar threats targeting the International Airports of Turks and Caicos and Bermuda have also been reported. “RVIPF is collaborating with these jurisdictions to identify the offenders behind these threats.”

Despite an extensive search, no devices were discovered, indicating the messages were likely intended to create chaos and disrupt airport operations, inconveniencing passengers, and staff. RVIPF reaffirms its dedication to resolving all criminal matters and will provide updates as the investigation progresses, the RVIPF stated.

Bomb threats to airports in TCI

Our newsroom can confirm that Between April 26 and 29, 2024, a combined four bomb threats were issued to the JAGS McCartney International Airport and Howard Hamilton International Airport in Turks and Caicos Islands.

Operations at the facilities were suspended as police searched for explosives after the Turks and Caicos Islands Civil Aviation Authority received emails about a bomb on the compound.

After hours of searching, no explosives were found leading police to label the incident as a hoax.

Turks and Caicos Islands Police Commissioner Edvin Martin had revealed that government officials also received threats against their lives.

if british virgin islanders would spend quality and quantity time and focus on helping their own brtiish virgin islanders our territory the british virgin islands would not be in such miserable condition as it is today. many british virgin islanders born and raised in the british virgin islands living abroad are very disappointed in our territory. we do not want to return home and our time energy and effort and our in studying abroad has been wasted and destroyed. we cannot even return home to our territory where we were born because the condition of our territory. every time we need newspaper articles about our territory we are left with no hope in our leaders of the british virgin islands. there is a monster. some inhumane being that is constantly bent on destruction.

It is terrifying to receive news of a potential bomb at the airports. Bombs do not discriminate. Whoever is in the vicinity will be hurt. Thank God that so far nothing bad has happened. Perhaps this will help us all to be vigilant.

On the other hand your tone is quite depressing. Stop bitching and moaning and become proactive. Yes, some Virgin Islanders will not ever return home but some do. You can affect change if you return and become active in the community. Stop sitting on the sidelines and Monday morning quarterbacking. We are not immune from problems and yes we have our fair share, but QUIT bellyaching and wringing your hands.

They know who is sending the bomb threats. Only a matter of time before they are caught. It's the Americans. Follow the arrests recently in T&C.
