ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Persons are being asked to exercise extreme caution due to the high temperatures being experienced in the [British] Virgin Islands (VI).

The Department of Disaster Management (DDM) said its Weathers Stem is showing high temperatures coupled with high heat indexes between the hours 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Temperature is how hot or cold the environment is, while the heat index is what the temperature feels like.

The heat index is ranging from 98F to 100F between the hours 9:00am to 3:00pm.

Precautions

DDM is recommending everyone should take the following steps to prevent heat-related illnesses, injuries, and death during hot weather:

Stay in an air-conditioned indoor location as much as you can.

Drink plenty of fluids even if you don't feel thirsty.

Schedule outdoor activities carefully.

Take cool showers or baths to cool down. (Source: Centre For Disease Control and Prevention).

I have been taking precautions my entire life since I suffer from Asthma. I have been feeling the effects of the high temperatures since last week. Open your car windows and do not get in right away or turn on the A/C. Allow the heat to escape first at least one minute before entering to sit down and then only turn on A/C before actually driving allowing the car to cool even more. When exiting your car, leave windows slightly cracked for heat to escape during the day. Some cars have been catching fire and this is one precaution you can do. Be safe and healthy everyone.

So you want a child to carry 6 bottles of water everyday its not like they remain in the same class every period. They have to fetch their bag to each class. water is cheap like $5. for a case its not that we cannot buy its the weight for the kids to carry around.
